Westland Insurance Group Ltd has an exciting opportunity for an
Intermediate Commercial Underwriter in Surrey, BC. located at our head office in a hybrid work environment. This role will be responsible for representing Westland Insurance Group Ltd. and collecting information from reputable sources to evaluate and manage degrees of risk involved with an insurance policy.

As an Intermediate Commercial Underwriter, you will underwrite risk and prepare quotes for a wide variety of policies by reviewing related information and determining the acceptability of commercial risks. This position will also play an integral and active role in building relationships with our brokers.

Why we’ll love You:

  • 3-5 years' commercial underwriting experience

Once here, you'll:
 

  • Successfully evaluate, select, negotiate and price assigned policies in order to insure a profitable book of business within an established underwriting authorities
  • Gather and assess appropriate risk information from the branches and internal sales departments and accept or decline submissions based on suitability of risk and market availability
  • Utiliza loss control and risk management practices in the underwriting process
  • Establish an underwriting discipline to minimize exposure and appropriately price risks including leveraging risk controls and claims in managing accounts and pre-qualification of prospects
  • Develop and maintain a professional relationship with brokers to enhance understanding of the target and contribute to high quality service, problem solving and risk selection
