Our Climate Quest – Science Communicator

August 2024 – 6-month contract with opportunity for extension

 

 

Do you want to travel cross-country ALL accommodations paid? Are you passionate about the environment and climate action? Join Science North and be a part of change! We want YOU to take our newest exhibit onto the road and across Canada with a team of other science communicators.

 

This is an exciting opportunity to take in everything that Canada has to offer, while delivering quality, educational and informal science experiences to audiences across the country. The Our Climate Quest travelling exhibition engages youth through real stories of current climate action initiatives, as well as interactives that investigate personal aspects of climate change. Visitors are introduced to the concept of climate action and our current understanding of climate change through observations, historical data, and Indigenous knowledge.

What exactly will you do in this one-of-a-kind role?

  • Learn about climate change and the role we each play to help Canada achieve its goal of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
  • Drive the travelling exhibit in a 26ft box truck (training provided) to predetermined host locations across Canada, install the exhibit and tear down the exhibit once it’s ready to move on.
  • Work on location at our host locations, engaging visitors with hands-on science experiences.
  • Champion and promote the Our Climate Quest travelling exhibit.
  • Troubleshoot day-to-day technical issues that may arise with the exhibit (training provided).
  • Help build and maintain strong working relationships with host locations

 

Qualifications:

  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Excellent time management skills and superior aptitude for problem solving
  • Fluency in French 
  • Post-secondary education in related field an asset

 

Compensation:

  • $28.00 per hour
  • Accommodations and transportation paid

 

This position will require travel across Canada to rural, remote and urban communities along with a team, and will involve weekend work. A valid G class driver’s license reflecting a 3-year safe driving record is required (non-negotiable). This is a full-time, contract opportunity to January 2025 with opportunity for extension.
