About the Role

As a subject matter expert, the Education and Government Initiatives Specialist will be responsible for: contributions to proposal writing, informing and developing program design and guiding principles within established systems, working with Program Managers, external stakeholders, and Métis governing bodies on education-related activities, and making recommendations that guide how programs and services are structured, delivered, and measured within a Branch.

What you will be doing

  • Develop programs, policies, and proposals based on demographic, social, and economic research, and analysis.
  • Assisting Program Managers with development and project evaluation, using a variety of research and evaluation tools.
  • Evaluate pilot projects and assess impact to secure longer-term funding or other supports and provide strategic considerations.
  • Utilize specialized knowledge to meet program, branch, and organizational needs.
  • Analyze processes, procedures, programs, and other systems, and collect data valuable to identify opportunities for additional impact or improvement.
  • Promote, track, and measure compliance with program funding requirements.
  • Updating Indigenous Advisory Education Committee policies and procedures from kindergarten to post-secondary.
  • Establish working groups to review and advise on educational activities and deliverables.
  • Provide oversight on written submissions to funders.
  • Provide strategic support and guidance in funding and accord negotiations.
  • Other reasonable duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications

  • Strong desire to act in the service of the Métis Citizens, to advance and uphold rights and culture.
  • Experience within the educational system in Ontario (early years – post-secondary), preferably with previous leadership roles.
  • Strong knowledge of curriculum, course development, and educational policies.
  • Completion of post-secondary education in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A high degree of technology literacy and proficiency in standard office equipment.
  • Advanced communications skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Strong project coordination, including the design and implementation of project work plans.
  • Superior organization skills.
  • Strong technical writing ability and experience in briefings, proposal writing, and annual reports.
  • Highly detail oriented.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing demands and assess changing priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess situations and problem-solve independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to work alone/independently with minimal supervision.
  • Familiarity with educational stakeholders and the capacity to navigate established systems and hierarchies.
  • Demonstrated experience in a related field

Preferred:

  • Completion of a Master of Public Administration (MPA), Master of Public Policy (MPP), or Master of Public Affairs, Master of Education or similar.
  • Knowledge of Métis-specific and broader indigenous policy and research, key challenges, and programs.
  • Familiarity with funding and partner agreements.
  • Strong knowledge of Métis governance bodies, federal and provincial agreements, and accords.
  • 2 years or more experience in a similar/comparable role
  • Experience dealing with confidential information
  • Demonstrated ability to write high quality evidence and data-based reports and professional presentations
  • Demonstrated ability in policy and program development and evaluation
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly acquire and expand knowledge and to be flexible in a demanding and dynamic environment
