The Opportunity: We are excited to announce an opportunity for the Operations Leader position in our Canmore business center. This opportunity is part of our succession planning efforts, prompted by the promotion of the Operations Leader to a senior leadership role as the Regional Vice President of our Prairies South region. Reporting to the Regional Vice President Prairies South, the successful candidate will ideally be based out of our Canmore office. 

To fill this role, we are seeking a leader with strong business and financial acumen, decision-making, and people leadership skills and a track record of managing diverse, multi-disciplinary teams and well connected within the regional market and the surrounding areas. In particular, we are looking for someone who is excited by the prospect of implementing their own independent strategies for development, while at the same time enjoying the benefits of support and collaboration from a larger organization.

As Operations Leader, you will be a key figure in motivating a high-performing team of multidisciplinary consulting professionals and exploring new ways to expand our niche services across Western Canada. Building on our strong reputation as the “go-to” local consultant, the successful candidate will be deeply immersed in this small mountain community, gaining a thorough understanding of the day-to-day local issues and dynamics. You will execute strategic objectives and meet Key Performance Indicators across McElhanney’s four cornerstones of People & Communities, Clients & Partners, Processes & Technology, and Financial. To accomplish this, you will be the leader in cultivating a positive work culture, have an unmatched drive for success, and be passionate about your role as a catalyst for operational excellence at the business center, in the region and in the company.

Background: McElhanney’s Canmore office is comprised of 4 divisions with highly experienced and dedicated multi-disciplinary professionals offering civil engineering, mechanical (ropeway) engineering, geomatics and trails design.  
The team consists of nearly 40 professionals delivering local land development and municipal projects, as well as servicing ski areas, trails groups and other recreational ventures across Western Canada and beyond. We are a tight-knit group who work well together and like to have fun in the outdoor playground of the Rocky Mountains surrounding Canmore.

Key Responsibilities:
Working closely with our Regional Vice President Prairies South, Regional Operational Leaders, and Discipline Leaders, you will lead and develop our Canmore branch strategy in continuing to serve our existing client base, while growing our market share in niche services across Western Canada. As a leader you know that people are the key to our success at every level. As a strategic partner you seek ways in which McElhanney can scale their niche service offerings to existing local clients that compliment McElhanney’s business portfolio. As an achiever you are known as a business leader who motivates their team to gets things and reach financial targets.

  • Set strategic direction for the business center and collaborate with RVP and other regional leaders for regional and corporate strategy development.
  • Continue to implement operational improvements at the business center level.  
  • Identify and implement high-value cross selling opportunities.
  • Identify and pursue innovative business opportunities and broaden our company impact.  Assist with proposal writing, engage in industry and professional association events as a McElhanney ambassador.
  • Grow your career and leadership capability through development, mentoring and engaging work.  Collaborate with colleagues across the Company doing great work with great clients
  • Establish effective workforce plans, including monitoring and elevating staff potential & performance, recruiting new members, managing performance, and developing employees.

  • Manage branch financials such as annual budgets, KPIs, quarterly forecasting, and accounting oversight (invoicing and collections) Lead branch operations such as workload management, safety, and quality management

Qualifications: 

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or a related field. A professional accreditation in a field applicable to our business (engineering, geomatics, etc).
  • Experience: A minimum of 10 years’ experience in consulting with 5+ years of leadership experience of diverse multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Knowledge of the local market.

What Can We Offer You? The salary range for this position is $140,000 to $200,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate
