Role Overview

McElhanney Ltd. has an exciting opportunity for a key position in our Bridge team in Edmonton. This will be a significant role that really puts you in the driver’s seat of being a key person for the Alberta bridge design team and would be instrumental in continuing to build our Alberta Bridge Group. Our project portfolio includes major interchange and river crossings, including multiple award-winning projects in BC and Alberta.  An example is the Stoney Trail Bridge Twinning involving bridge construction engineering support for a segmentally-launched, balanced, cantilevered 470m-long bridge over the Bow River.

Responsibilities 

•    Complete inspections, assessments, analyses, structural modeling and design of bridges and other transportation infrastructure such as retaining walls and major sign structures.   
•    Prepare and/or review structural design calculations for highway bridges, pedestrian bridges, railroad bridges, temporary resource bridges, retaining walls, overhead light standards and bridge-sized culverts.
•    Assist with and participate in business development, project pursuits and proposal preparation on bridge and other transportation infrastructure projects. 
•    Prepare conceptual, design and contract cost estimates. 
•    Coordinate with  sub-consultants and  various interested parties.
•    Prepare and/or review specifications, special provisions, drawings, contract documents and other related project deliverables.  
•    Undertake contract administration, field inspection and reporting to monitor the quality and progress of the work being performed.
•    Work with other team members to ensure schedules, budgets, and quality control standards are achieved and maintained   .
•    Provide mentorship and guidance to other team members.

Requirements

•    Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering and/or Structural Engineering from an accredited post-secondary institution plus 5 to 10 years’ experience in a similar role. 
•    Registration in good standing as a P. Eng. in Alberta and be eligible for registration in British Columbia.
•    Knowledge & experience with bridge design related to CAN/CSA S6, and its application to bridge projects across highway, rural road, and resource projects.
•    Proficiency in the application of AutoCAD Civil 3D, MIDAS and CSiBridge related to bridge design work.
•    Experience in bridge hydrotechnical analysis in accordance with Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors guidelines is considered an asset.
•    High quality work, attention to detail, productivity and effective verbal and written communication skills. 
•    An ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.

What Can We Offer You?

The salary range for this position is $92,000 - $135,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
