POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting directly to the Finance Director, the Tax Manager is responsible for every aspect of tax issues that an entity encounters on a daily/monthly/ quarterly/ yearly basis. The primary purpose of this position is to prepare yearly tax provision and related tax disclosures on financial statements, ensure compliance with Canadian and international regulations on all return filings, assist/manage various government tax audits, find and implement opportunities for process improvement in company tax procedures, and support/answer the tax team from HQ and North America on various tax related projects/queries.

PRINCIPAL REPONSIBILITIES

Taxation

  • Prepare year-end tax provisions and review provisions to return-true-ups.
  • Prepare tax returns for corporate income and sales taxes.
  • Assist with the transfer pricing audit. 
  • Coordinate and manage/assist with tax audits, inquiries and notices from tax authorities.
  • Provide assistance and guidance to various business departments on tax related matters (VAT/EHF/CIT/Custom duties etc.)
  • Coordinate with external consultants on addressing various tax issues arising from in-bound/out-bound arrangements.
  • Do tax research and prepare technical memos addressing tax issues identified.
  • Preparing cash tax forecasts and a cash tax payment plan for the Treasury team.

Accounting

  • Responsible for assisting with monthly closing and year-end financial statement audit.
  • Perform GL and financial statement analysis for tax related accounts.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • BA/BS in Business with an emphasis in Tax, CPA required.
  • CPA In-Depth Program or equivalent (Preferred)
  • Advanced Tax Level 2 (Preferred)
  • Minimum 3 years of post-designation experience in Canadian corporate tax and commodity tax. Experience working in a professional services firm is preferred.
  • Exposure to international tax is a strong asset.
  • IFRS tax provision experience.
  • Prior supervisory experience.
  • Must be PC proficient and able to thrive in a fast -paced setting. Must have strong experience with Microsoft Excel, PPT and Word.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, supervisory and customer service skills required.
  • Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines required.
  • Bilingualism in English/Korean would be considered an asset
