PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

 

Youth are organizing as key climate critics. However, youth are construed as "future citizens" as a way to dismiss their decision-making power. This project will support youth to move beyond the streets and into decision making rooms to mobilize their right to a healthy environment. By equipping students to co-world their futures, co-author a policy paper, and plan their interventions into climate decision making spheres at local and international levels, this project will co-design transformative approaches to education with youth and their teachers from participating schools in 12 of the top 30 carbon-emitting nations around the world, as well as 26 schools across Canada.

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

 

The Project Coordinator works closely and collaboratively with Principal Investigator, research team, high school teachers, and other stakeholders to plan, direct, organize, and carry out a global networked classroom on climate change and energy transition.

 

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:  

 

  • Work collaboratively with Principal Investigator(s) to coordinate project activities and assist with carrying out the project.
  • Correspond with external stakeholders, namely teachers and high school students in schools nationally and globally.
  • Organize tasks, responsibilities, and outcomes.
  • Document activities and track progress.
  • Establish and continually monitor/manage project expectations with team; assign tasks and identify issues for resolution to ensure optimal team effectiveness.
  • Prepare and maintain all project status reports and schedules.
  • Prepare and summarize project budgets.
  • Foster team effectiveness by acting to develop an environment that promotes the effectiveness and morale of the team.
  • Organize and host weekly research team meetings
  • Build community (e.g. regular communication with teachers, high school students, and research team)
  • Recruit and onboard participant teachers, youth, and mentors
  • Coordinate and facilitate online and in-person events and workshops, including online methodology training and in-person writers’ retreats
  • Coordinate participant travel for in-person meetings and events
  • Travel to and attend teacher curriculum meetings and youth writers’ retreats
  • Support data collection and management
  • Collaborate with PI team and other project researchers on research and evaluation activities (e.g., survey development, evaluation reports, data collection and management)
  • Process grant-related payments and purchases and track expenditures
  • Other related duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS and SKILLS:

 

  • Successful completion of a related university degree.
  • Experience with Excel and collaborative online tools such as the Google suite (e.g. Google docs).
  • Experience with or willingness to work with the education system (teachers, curriculum, policy, students).
  • Experience with project coordination or planning preferred.
  • Extremely organized, proactive, and collaborative.
  • Willingness and ability to travel and to work evenings and weekends as required
  • A valid driver’s license.
