Job Title: Human Resources Business Partner 

Status: Full Time, Permanent

Location: Toronto, ON - 200 Evans Ave. Etobicoke, ON

 

Required Skills/Abilities:

 

  • Experience:
    • 3-5 years of HR experience in an advisory level role or above, with a focus on employee and labour relations. 
    • Experience in labour relations, preferably in a unionized or multi-union environment

 

  • Education:
    • Relevant post-secondary degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Business Administration, or a related field.

 

  • Skills:
    • Strong negotiation, conflict resolution, and problem-solving abilities. 
    • Experience applying Canadian labour laws, human rights, and employment legislation. 
    • Proficiency in HRIS systems (e.g., Dayforce) and Microsoft Office Suite. 
    • Excellent communications, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

 

  • Other Requirements:
    • Ability to pass all pre-employment checks and required security clearances
    • Ability to maintain all required security clearances
    • Reliable transportation required

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Labour Relations:
    • Act as the primary contact for all labour relations matters
    • Consulting on all union matters such as the application and interpretation of collective agreements, resolving grievances, providing guidance to management on labour legislation and dispute resolution.
    • Investigate and resolve grievances and disputes, promoting positive employee relations and conflict resolution.
    • Stay informed about changes in labour laws and ensure company compliance. 
    • Collaborate with HR, legal counsel, and senior management to manage labour-related risks and issues.
    • Experience with collective bargaining, grievances and arbitrations preferred

 

  • Employee Relations and Performance Management:
    • Support  HR functions including recruitment, health and safety, and labour relations. 
    • Manage employee relations and issuing feedback, discipline, and recognition. 
    • Provide day-to-day performance management guidance to managers (e.g., coaching, counseling, and career development). 
    • Conduct thorough and objective investigations into employee relations issues, escalating complex matters when necessary.

  • Health and Safety Support:
    • Support the health and safety program, ensuring compliance with policies and promoting a culture of "ZERO Accidents". 
    • Assist the Health and Safety department in the investigation of work-related incidents, ensuring communication with WSIB and the Ministry of Labour where required. 
    • Coordinate return-to-work programs, adhering to company policies regarding no lost time.

 

  • Strategic HR Planning:
    • Partner with HR and senior leadership to analyze trends, develop policies, and implement HR initiatives aligned with business needs. 
    • Provide guidance on business restructuring, workforce planning, and succession planning. 
    • Identify training needs for leadership development and implement training programs to build managerial capabilities.

Job Overview:

The Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) plays a critical role in aligning business objectives with employees and management. This position serves as a consultant to management on HR-related issues, including employee and labour relations, workforce planning, and organizational development. The HRBP will support the development and implementation of HR strategies while acting as a subject matter expert on labour relations matters. This role is responsible for leading negotiations, resolving disputes, and ensuring compliance with labour legislation. Operating primarily in Ontario, the HRBP may also support managers and employees throughout the Alpine organization.

 

Working Conditions:

This role is an on-site position at Alpine’s Head Office in Toronto (200 Evans Ave. #1, Etobicoke, ON M8Z 1J7) and may require you to travel to various locations throughout ON based on business needs. This office hours are Monday to Friday 8:30am to 5:00pm Eastern time but may occasionally require some additional hours on evenings and weekends as needed.
