We operate 5 Pulp Plants across geographies. 3 Units in Canada, 1 Unit in Sweden and 1 Unit in India. These plants are operated with different pulping technologies that include PHK Kraft, Sodium Bisulfite and Magnesium Bisulfite Process to produce Dissolving Grade Pulp. Our Sweden Facility has a Unique Biorefinery to Produce Lignin and Ethanol. 

Central Technical Cell (CTC) is a corporate function operating from the Nackawic, NB facility. Aiming to develop “Center of Excellence”, aligning to business priorities, supporting process knowledge and innovation to deliver the strategic technological agenda. CTC is responsible for adopting best practices in technology and partnering with the units in resolving key process challenges, meeting customers and stakeholder’s expectations. The team will drive reliability improvement programs, quality Improvement initiatives and support capital investments across the pulp plants.

AV Group NB Inc. is currently recruiting for the following position: Dissolving Grade Pulp Director/Manager – Part of the Pulp Central Operations Team

Role Overview

Reporting to the President & Head of CTC – Pulp Business

This Position is the “Go-To” expert and process specialist responsible to provide action plans to ensure improvement in  production processes across the pulp units. Play a key role in trouble shooting major issues in mill operations and supporting and achieving the required efficiencies and customer expectations. Develop recommendations to improve the basic design of plant or technology, leading to improvements in plant productivity, efficiency, quality, and cost reduction.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible to proactively track, analyze and close the major deviations in the DG Pulp process and to assist the mill teams in trouble shooting major issues;
  • Improve and support the manufacturing processes to achieve better production and quality while reducing cost;
  • Lead regular benchmarking; develop recommendations for improvement to the basic design of the plants, technology and operating practices;
  • Provide technical support to operating teams to address customer concerns;
  • Develop high level cost estimates for setting direction for improvement projects;
  • Supplement R&D initiatives with technology inputs in development stage.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering;
  • 15+ years of Operating Experience in Fiber Line Process (Wood to Pulp Machine) in Pulp plant;
  • Experience improving Steam and Recovery processes would be considered an asset;
  • Dissolving Grade experience with Kraft /Sulfite Process, would be preferred;
  • Proven leadership abilities with excellent communication, decision making, problem solving and analytical skills;
  • Flexible and able to adjust to changing priorities and delivering results;
  • Experience of working in a Process Engineering company will be an added advantage.
