The Spatial Data Services (SDS) team is responsible for keeping an accurate record of all construction and development activity occurring at both at the Calgary International and Springbank Airports, while setting sights on new spatial technologies to share data company wide. We maintain and update an archive of spatial and technical facility record data, and provide operational graphic, drafting, and mapping support services for various business units at YYC and YBW.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Reporting to the Manager, Spatial Data Services, the Technologist, Spatial Data Services Technologist will utilize a variety of technologies and resources to create, analyze, manage, communicate and distribute graphical, written, and tabular data to internal and external stakeholders.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Maintain current AutoCAD work environment by entering, tracking, and completing various work requests (including drawing updates, operational drawing modifications, retrieval and distribution of historical information in record drawings, preliminary design drawings, new graphic designs, and plotting requests) to support corporate business units daily.
  • Conduct analysis, assessing proposed developments against relevant airport /aviation requirements.
  • Review and assess construction documentation received from internal and external sources and incorporate key information into facility record drawings to ensure compliance with YYC CADD/GIS Standards.
  • Update procedures and standards that relate to maintaining data on airport facilities including but not limited to drafting standards, graphical standards, data retrieval and distribution, work and project tracking, and department best practices.
  •  Perform software trouble shooting and provide technical advice and support to internal partners. Software troubleshooting is specific to specialized software that cannot be supported through IT Service Desk.
  • Programs in LISP, VBA, SQL, and other programming languages and creates custom routines to enhance efficiency.
  • Act as a department point of contact for internal business units and attend regular stakeholder meetings.
  • Utilize AutoCAD software to create and share spatial data company wide.

 

WHAT YOU BRING

  • A post-secondary diploma in Architectural or Engineering Drafting Technology or Geographic Information Systems.
  • Minimum 1-3 years of experience in a drafting/technologist role or related field.
  • Excellent working knowledge of CADD (Computer Aided Design & Drafting) practices, techniques, equipment, and software (AutoCAD Map 3D, Revit, Civil 3D) or (Geographic Information Systems) practices, techniques, equipment, and software (ESRI ArcGIS Pro).
  • Working knowledge of FME Data Integration Platform.
  • Knowledge of and skill to work within the various drafting disciplines used in construction drawings - Building (Architectural, Mechanical & Electrical) - Site (Civil, Electrical, Telecom, Storm, Sanitary, Water, Natural Gas, aviation related features)
  • Thorough understanding of the interrelationship of the various disciplines within the building and site facility plans.
  • Thorough understanding of the impact construction, as-built/record drawings, and specifications have on facility record drawings
  • Ability to visualize and the design skills needed to create professional drawings based on verbal description or sketch.
  • Advanced skills using the operating system of a CADD workstation for use in storage and retrieval of the databases and associated drawing files.
  • Excellent working knowledge in the other software packages used by the YYC (Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Illustrator, Photoshop, I, AviPlan)
  • A passion for all things spatial: geospatial data, web-mapping, cartography and more

WHAT ELSE

  • Ability to obtain an Airside Vehicle Operator Permit (AVOP)
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Restricted Area Identification Card (RAIC)
