Position:                           Corporate Finance Accountant (14 months FT Temporary)

Job Description

This position ensures timely and accurate reporting of all Corporate Financial results (month-end and year-end reporting) through liaising with Corporate Finance, Financial Planning & Analysis, Strategic Sourcing and Procurement, and the Program Finance teams; Ownership of the commodity tax reporting/claims and the Annual CRA Charity Return (T3010). This position also be a key liaison to World Vision’s external auditors during the interim, YE, other finance related audits.

 

Duties and responsibilities

Corporate Financial Reporting and closing process

  • Coordinate and ensure the timely submission of all financial data from the corporate finance, program finance, and supporter operations teams, as well as ensuring receipt of all information from all digital platforms, to ensure timely and accurate reporting of monthly financial information.
  • Performing key journal entries including accruals, managing prepaids and allocate to various business owners, bank interest income and fees and other reallocation entries.
  • Ensure timely closing of books and financial statements are distributed as per schedule
  • Responsible for preparing the balance sheet & other reports for SO reporting.
  • Uphold key financial controls to ensure integrity of financial reporting and the safe keeping of financial resources through review and analysis of material transactions, review and reconciliation of World Vision’s assets and liability accounts.
  • Responsible for creating and managing the year-end schedule to ensure all information has been gathered and completed for the annual External Audit.
  • Engage with external auditors during the interim and year-end audits and provide all necessary information and working papers required.
  • Engage with senior leaders in the organization regarding issues that may arise during the audit.
  • Review and booking of endowment investment market revaluation journal entries and prepare the quarterly Investment board report
  • On an ongoing basis develop & implement new processes and procedures, wherever required, to increase efficiency within the corporate finance department. This will include informal mentoring and coaching of corporate accountants and accounts payable staff on change of procedures, reports and reconciliations & proper use of chart of accounts to bring into effect the incremental process improvements.
  • Provide accounting and financial guidance across the organization, ensuring adherence to current Canadian GAAP accounting and charity tax standards. Keep updated on regulatory changes, apply them to WVC's operations, and advise business unit managers on implications and necessary adjustments.
  • Responsible for the year over year variance analysis of balance sheet items.
  • Coverage for other finance operations, including bank reconciliation, donation processing & inquiries and other ad hoc area.

 

Charity Regulatory Compliance Reporting

  • Responsible for the compilation, coordination and completion of the Annual Charity Information Return to CRA (T3010). This requires:
  • Compiling information from the corporate finance records and assessing how it fits into the T3010 format;
  • Receiving and analyzing information from the Program Finance Department; and completing detailed schedules to accompany the T3010.
  • Responsible for filing all commodity tax refund requests, including tabulating the information, completing the applicable documentation, and submitting for refund. Also responsible for all communication with regulatory providers surrounding commodity tax issues and audits.

 

Fixed Asset Management

  • Manage, maintain and reconcile the fixed asset sub-ledger ensuring all categories and depreciation rates have been set up correctly, that transactions have been posted accurately into their appropriate categories, and that depreciation is recorded each month in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Prepare monthly fixed asset report showing spend to date, committed and budgeted amounts.
  • Prepare annual depreciation budget and update capital assets projections for the budget process.
  • Review fixed assets disposal with capital owners and write off disposed assets annually

 

Qualifications:

  • University or college degree, preferably in business and or an accounting related field.
  • Professional Accounting designation such as CPA CA/CGA/CMA.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in corporate financial accounting and reporting, especially as it relates to dealing with month-end close processes, journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, internal controls, external audit working papers and non-profit accounting.
  • Knowledge in dealing with multi-national organizations and reconciling balances between various entities.
  • Knowledge and understanding of current Canadian GAAP specifically as it relates to the Not-for-profit sector.
  • Experience in dealing with external auditors and the preparation of working papers related to year-end.
  • Superior communication skills both written and verbal, and the ability to work well with diverse groups and other stakeholders, including personnel from World Vision International.
  • Detail-oriented, problem solver and analytical skills to solve business and accounting related issues.
  • Process-oriented and innovative thinker who is able to aid in ongoing process improvement.
  • Strong computer skills and experience in working within an ERP environment together with excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office products, with expert knowledge of Excel. Working experience with Microsoft Dynamics Finance & Operation is preferred.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with an ability to meet critical deadlines.
  • Ability to work and engage in a team environment, but also the ability to work in isolation, being self-motivated to meet various deadlines.
