The Opportunity

Are you passionate about fostering positive change and empowering communities?  We are set out to find a dedicated and dynamic person to achieve just that! This role will collaborate with diverse groups, identify community needs, implement programs that enhance areas such as social, economic, and environmental well-being. 

 

Reporting to the Manager of Recreation, the Community Development Facilitator is responsible for collaborating with and supporting capacity in partnering and building up neighborhoods, schools, communities of interest (interest groups), private enterprises, and nonprofit organizations to identify and plan projects to achieve safer, healthier, and a more prosperous community. Your skills in community engagement and project management will be instrumental in driving initiatives that create lasting impacts and achieve our goals. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Community Development
    • Facilitating neighborhoods, communities of interest, organizations & agencies in identifying their recreational, community and parkland development needs through needs assessments, planning processes, resource development, problem solving and partnership development.
    • Empowering others to identify opportunities, responsibilities & helping them take actionable steps toward meeting their community goals.
    • Help the community identify, articulate their needs and support the development of practical strategies to meet them.
  • Relationship Management
    • Building and maintaining lasting relationships with community groups & organizations.
    • Partner with internal stakeholders to deliver programs, services, and amenities that support the Recreation department goals and objectives, strategic plans, and corporate/council strategies.
    • Acts as a liaison between other communities/communities of interest and City departments.
    • Meeting regularly with community members to gain insight into their issues and concerns.
  • Project Management
    • Identify and manage community projects from concept to completion.
    • Monitoring project completion, impact, and results.
    • Create internal project teams as required.
  • Funding Development
    • Support the research, writing of proposals, and administration of grants for community projects.
  • Organizational Development
    • Assist with board, program, and organizational development.
  • Research/Analysis – Public Engagement
    • Research and analyze community issues to develop targeted programs.
    • Organizing & conducting community outreach projects -neighborhood projects.
    • Facilitating public engagement efforts to encourage participation in community projects.
    • Conduct surveys and gather data on community needs, trends, and opportunities (identify common concerns & co-create applicable solutions.
    • Establish evaluation criteria to capture and manage the collective impact of community development efforts.
  • Team
    • Support the development of new programs, services, and amenities.
    • Raise public awareness of community related issues, events, and programs.
    • Participate in City led, and community led special events and annual events ensuring events run smoothly.
    • Works with the rest of the team to provide/support marketing & promotions of the Recreation Department’s amenities, programs, and services.

Education, Qualifications, and Work Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Recreation Administration, Community Development, Social Work, or Social Sciences
  • Minimum of 5 years of direct Community Development
  • Minimum of 2 years working in a municipality
