As a SolidWorks PDM Mechanical Engineer | Engineering Service Manager, you will have the goal of continuous improvement in mind by creating and promoting opportunities for uniformity across our Modelling Systems and Engineering groups. You will possess primary responsibility for designing, installing, configuring, and administering SolidWorks PDM in our product development environment, including ongoing maintenance of the PDM vault and mechanical design. This position is ideal for professionals who want to consolidate and expand their product data management (PDM) skills while contributing to innovative engineering projects. As a manager, you will oversee a team and delegate tasks to address and resolve software related issues.  

 

Knowledge and Skills: 

  • Collaborate with manufacturing and engineering to design and develop systems by identifying and meeting project requirements, creating strategies to optimize daily project operations, and ensure compliance with relevant industry policies and standards. 

SolidWorks PDM Installation and Configuration :

  • Install, configure, and update SolidWorks PDM and its components;
  • Create and maintain the vault's organizational structure, including custom folders, data models, and workflows;
  • Administer users, groups, roles, and permissions to secure access and ensure compliance.

Maintenance and management of the PDM vault:

  • Develop and implement continuous improvement strategies to optimize the performance and usability of the PDM vault;
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues, providing expert-level support to users;
  • Manage software updates and ensure compatibility with existing systems.

Workflow Development and Automation:

  • Design and implement custom workflows in SolidWorks PDM to automate engineering and design processes, reducing time-to-market and human error;
  • Use VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) to create automation scripts that improve data integration and document management;
  • Collaborate with users to understand their needs and develop customized automation solutions that increase operational efficiency.

Mechanical design:

  • Participate in the design and development of new products using SolidWorks;
  • Conduct feasibility studies and stress analyses to ensure the viability and compliance of designs;
  • Collaborate with production and quality teams to ensure a smooth transition of designs from prototype to production mechanical.

Management:

  • Oversee training agreements, and licensing of all Engineering software such as Solidworks, Simulation, PDM, Cadonix, and Draftsight.   
  • Conduct regular assessments to ensure procedures comply with relevant industry policies and standards. 
  • Manage team members to assist users with modelling issues, steering users toward existing best practices and coaching users to follow standards. 
  • Chair ECN, Product Manager and other Engineering related meetings. 

 

Qualifications: 

  • Possess a mechanical engineering degree, technology diploma, or equivalent. 
  • Certification and an expert level of understanding in the SolidWorks suite of products. 
  • Strong understanding of SQL, VBA, and C languages.
  • Must be adaptable to a changing work environment, competing demands and able to deal with changing priorities, delays or unexpected events. 
  • Good organizational and communication skills (both written and verbal). 
  • Able to effectively troubleshoot and problem solve.
