Reporting directly to the Director of Health, Safety and Environment, the Health, Safety and Environment Specialist is accountable for providing consultative services, support and strategic client partnership in the implementation of the organization’s occupational health, safety and environmental programs.  The Health, Safety and Environment Specialist will work collaboratively with various departments, business units and regions to provide guidance, expertise, support and training to ensure a safe working environment for employees.

What you'll do:

  • Monitor trends in leading and lagging indicators, reporting and communicating performance
  • Provide in depth guidance and support to managers to meet their accountabilities for the safety and health of their employees, the public and for the environment; this includes regulatory requirement interpretation and application, HSE management systems and processes, proactive risk and control management, incident investigation/root cause, return to work, internal and external reporting responsibilities.
  • Support training systems to aid in ensuring adequate training and skill competence
  • Act as a liaison between operations and regulatory bodies
  • Lead the implementation of best practice guidelines to enable proactive management of risk for the organization and supports the Internal Responsibility System.
  • Provide advice and consulting support to Managers and employees on HSE related matters to support continuous improvement and improvement of the safety culture.
  • Partner with Managers to diagnose HSE related issues and recommend solutions that drive desired change.
  • Contribute to the development and testing of emergency plans to support the region.
  • Develop and support processes that encourage employee participation in safety, leadership engagement and positive recognition to foster safe and healthy working environments.
  • Perform governance functions to ensure processes are functioning as intended and to responsible practice.
  • Managing performance reporting requirements both internally and externally.

What you bring:

  • Secondary education, 7+ years progressive experience HSE, related fields in transport, distribution. Experience in union environment an asset.
  • CRSP, CHSC or professional designation will be considered an asset
  • Project and change management skills
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Provincial regulatory framework, preference to propane related
  • Proven time management skills, ability to simplify complicated processes
  • Effective oral and written communication, ability to influence and coach constructively
  • Inspiring and positive attitude that motivates others to do their best
  • Strong team player, manages deadlines, planning and organization skills
  • Strong computer skills; outlook, word, excel, power point, comfort with remote communication tools
  • Ability to travel and work in close proximity to people
  • Experience with workers compensation claims and injury management
  • Analytical and problem solving skills
  • Proficient English and French communication skills, written and verbal are mandatory as this position supports key stakeholders outside of the Quebec Region.
