What can you expect?

 

The Terrain Park Supervisor provides an outstanding experience for guests by building, operating, and maintaining progressive freestyle experiences at the Ski Area, overseeing the Terrain Parks department, and diligently monitoring the terrain parks and features. The Supervisor focuses on public safety, reducing risks associated with features, and on creating experiences that favour all ability levels. The Supervisor also acts as a spokesperson for the safety and enjoyable use of the terrain Parks at Sunshine Village, being an advocate for rider responsibility and the sport’s evolving nature. 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Acting as a leader and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Terrain Parks department, providing a safe, enjoyable, and positive work environment.
  • Training, providing knowledge to terrain park staff, and maintaining good department balance with consistent communication.
  • Oversees terrain park builds, layouts, construction, design, and maintenance, staying current on innovation and advancements in the sport.
  • Traveling safely and professionally on skis or snowboard to perform tasks, driving snowmobiles and riding chairlifts at times with tools/equipment, working a physically demanding role in a challenging, remote, alpine environment.
  • Maintaining snow fencing, signage, and other identifiers within parks, focusing on risk management, brand exposure, and employee safety.
  • Monitoring run signs, trail signs, closures, and other equipment placed throughout terrain parks, ensuring conformance to industry standards and current CWSAA terrain park guidelines.
  • Continuous monitoring and maintaining of park features via riding and testing them for safety (i.e., changing weather conditions, frequency of use, level of difficulty).
  • Communicating effectively via radio.
  • Assisting the Vehicle Maintenance department with over snow vehicle service and maintenance, as needed.
  • Administrative and Reporting Responsibilities:
    • Hiring, scheduling, work assignments, overseeing payroll, performance management and corrective action for the department.
    • Timely and accurate incident reporting (including WCB) to appropriate departments and personnel
    • Documenting and completing daily checks, rosters, and grooming reports.
    • Attending to any deficiencies and safety hazards in a timely manner.
    • Participating in incident investigations where department is involved.
    • Active involvement in the purchase, maintenance, and operation of all Terrain Park related equipment.

Experience/Requirements

  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in a Ski Area terrain park setting.
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience driving a snowcat in a terrain park setting.
  • Possess a good, basic understanding of snow farming techniques.
  • Knowledgeable with woodworking, metal working, and welding tools.  
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite of programs, HRIS systems (Ceridian Dayforce an asset).
  • Knowledge of basic drafting, physics, competency with simple mathematical equations.
  • Experience in risk management, knowledge of skier demographics and traffic flow at a medium to large ski resort, and how location and design of terrain parks affect these parameters.
  • Working knowledge of weather patterns and how environmental conditions affect the surfaces and consistency of snow in and around the terrain parks.
  • Knowledgeable in emergency procedures, specifically the role of all Mountain Operations team members in emergency situations.  
  • Prepared to work flexible schedules (weekends, holidays).
  • Prepared to work outdoors in all weather conditions (appropriate footwear, layers, gloves, etc.)
  • Ability to ski/snowboard at a high intermediate/advanced level required, with experience riding in a terrain park setting. 
  • Providing your own ASTM-compliant helmet and equipment for work which must be in good operating condition, meet Company requirements, and will be tested.
