Substitute Teacher - Spirit of Technology

For Substitute Teacher, the duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 

Class Preparation

  • Following the lessons plan as established by the regular teacher.
  • If given enough notice, receiving the lesson plans, student handouts, class list, and any other necessary supplies no later than the day before the class, in order to prepare properly;
  • Arriving at least 15 minutes before class time to ensure that the classroom is set-up appropriately and to be available to supervise and give help to students. Photocopying and other preparation should be completed prior to this.
  • Any large amounts of photocopying will be done at the office.
  •  

Administration

  • Keeping an up-to-date record of attendance on file at the School.
  • Responding promptly to emails and phone calls on matters related to the School.

 

Parent Communication

  • Responding promptly to emails and phone calls on matters related to the students.

 

When a substitute teacher is assigned to replace the same teacher for three (3) or more consecutive (instructional) weeks for the same class, it is considered a short-term assignment. Short-term assignments will not extend past three (3) consecutive months for substituting for the same teacher or class. Below are the duties and responsibilities include for all short-term assignments, but are not limited to:

Class Preparation

  • Lesson plans should be prepared on a weekly basis before arriving to the campus, and when required by your Campus Principal handed in;
  • Maintain inventory of class materials, such as handouts and drill books; and
  • Help other staff members set up the classrooms as needed.
  • Attend staff meetings as required.

Facility Preparation and Cleanup

  • Arrive well before class time, as specified by your Campus Principal depending on location, to ensure that the classroom is set-up appropriately, and to be available to supervise and give help to students. Preparation, such as marking and lesson planning, should be completed prior to this;
  • At the end of each evening of classes, ensure that the class is clean and tidy and to help other teachers as needed; and
  • At the end of each evening to put away all furniture and supplies as required in the facility; and
  • Help other staff members cleanup and reset the furniture as needed.

Administration

  • Keep an up-to-date record of attendance and marks;
  • Respond promptly to emails and phone calls on matters related to the School within one regular business day;
  • Attend staff meetings; and
  • Assist the Campus Principal with the organization and administration of the contests and exams.

Extra-Curricular 

  • Attend open houses or curriculum nights as required during the regular school year; and
  • Attend homework help as required.

Parent Communication

  • Respond promptly to emails and phone calls on matters related to the students within one (1) regular business day;
  • Phone all parents once before the end of October and again between January and March, and keep a record of all communications;
  • In addition, contact the parents of students who have an overall average of 60% or below in grades 5 and up, or when a student fails an assignment or test in grades 1 to 4, this can be done by phone, in writing or by seeing the parents before or after class;
  • Mark all assignments to be ready to hand out at the beginning of the next week, regardless of when the class is during the week, and phone parents if any major concerns before mark is entered into online gradebook; and
  • Update attendance and marks in online gradebook system by the beginning of the next lesson week. This includes writing report card comments when required.
