Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director, Environmental & Energy this role will be focused on working closely with the engineering and operations departments to drive energy management discipline combined with focus projects on utility reduction throughout the organization. The work is project-oriented, and you may be working on several projects, all at various stages, at any given time.

 

Key Accountabilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive energy audits to identify reduction opportunities in our processing facilities;
  • Develop, manage, and implement energy-saving projects, ensuring they meet budget, quality, and time objectives;
  • Collaborate directly with equipment manufacturers and utility providers to optimize energy usage;
  • Lead the management of the Industrial Conservation Initiative (ICI) and Global Adjustment charges to minimize costs;
  • Monitor and report on the performance of energy initiatives, providing regular updates to senior management;
  • Train employees on energy conservation practices and promote a culture of sustainability within the organization;
  • Keep abreast of the latest energy technologies and practices relevant to the food processing industry;
  • Work with various stakeholders to ensure energy management practices comply with local, provincial, and federal regulations;
  • Develop and manage the annual energy budget and forecast future energy needs;
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all energy-related matters within the company.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field. A Master's degree is an asset;
  • P.Eng. and/or Certified Energy Manager (CEM) designation is mandatory;
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in energy management, preferably in the manufacturing or food processing industry;
  • Fundamental understanding of boilers and refrigeration systems;
  • Demonstrated success in conducting energy assessments, retrofits and implementing energy reduction projects;
  • Knowledge of energy benchmarking and energy management systems;
  • Strong knowledge of the Industrial Conservation Initiative (ICI) and experience managing Global Adjustment costs;
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to train, influence and motivate employees;
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment;
  • Proficient in using energy management information systems and Microsoft Office Suite including Excel and Power BI
  • Willingness to travel within and outside of Ontario as required
