The Role 

We are looking for a Registered ProfessionalForester to work with one of our SaaS platforms, Silvacom FMS™ (www.silvacomfms.com) - the most comprehensive cloud-based forest management software in the world. Working closely with our team of developers, designers, product managers, support representatives, and business development team, you will provide subject matter expertise in the field of forestry and help evaluate Silvacom’s portfolio of products while informing strategic opportunities in the province of British Columbia. 

 

The Product 

Silvacom FMS (www.silvacomfms.com)is an Esri-based geospatial software solution that offers sophisticated, powerful and easy-to-use workflows. Created in 2003, Silvacom FMS is an integrated system of geospatial cloud-based forest management applications that empower forestry companies to plan harvesting activities, track operations, manage silviculture, generate georeferenced maps and much, much more. Silvacom FMS is a SaaS product of Silvacom (www.silvacom.com). 

 

Just like the FMS product, our FMS team is growing, and we are looking for detail oriented, high-performing people to join us and help solve problems in the forest management software space.

Who you are:  

You are highly personable, have strong communication skills and have forest management experience working in the forestry industry in British Columbia. You have a solid understanding of challenges presented in the BC forestry industry while also having a grasp on opportunities that are presented given these challenges. As a forester, you have been exposed to woodlands operations, are familiar with reforestation planning, regulatory frameworks and are well versed in the application of technology and innovation to help solve challenges presented to the forestry industry. 

 

What you will do:  

  • Work closely as a forestry Subject Matter Expert (SME) with government and industry to support their planning needs (harvesting, reforestation and operational planning) 
  • Lead consulting projects in British Columbia, supporting the FMS user base (clients) in effectively leveraging knowledge our software 
  • Confidently learn about Silvacom FMS, workflows and use cases as the product evolves 
  • Work in a business development capacity to grow our product 
  • Identify opportunity for strategic product development informed by the voice of customer and market needs in British Columbia 
  • Work closely with our Forest Management System software and team to gather requirements and execute on product development 
  • Identify potential business opportunities and participate in proposal development; 
  • Participate in client-side activities like site visits, conferences, sales meetings which will include opportunity to travel  
  • Aid in validating client needs to drive customer satisfaction for our products and services 
 

 

The Ideal Candidate 

  • Intimate knowledge of the British Columbia regulatory framework 
  • Experience in the forestry industry within British Columbia in a planning or silviculture role 
  • Open to travel for work around the province of British Columbia to support our clients, attend conferences; supporting our clients and growing our product and team 
  • Initiative and creativity when approaching challenges 
  • A determined focus on meeting the needs of customers 
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality 
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills  
  • Functions as a team player with a desire to be part of a world-class team solving real-world problems 
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently without constant supervision
  • Desire to take an active interest in the company 
  • Desire to be challenged and pushed professionally 
  • Ability to work under pressure and deliver within tight deadlines 

 

Academic Qualifications 

  • An undergraduate degree in forestry, agriculture, environmental science, ecology, environmental planning or related field 
  • British Columbia RPF or RPT
