Position Summary

Reporting to the Director, Legislative Services (Municipal Clerk), the Policy Coordinator is responsible for the development and management of the council and corporate policy program.

Core Accountabilities

  • Administer the corporate policy program and maintain an accurate and current database of policies to serve Council, the public, and the Administration.
  • Provide guidance and support to the departments in the development and revision of Council and Administrative policies and procedures.
  • Ensure policy development procedure is followed by departments.
  • Lead analysis, research, and process development of the policy program, with a focus on quality assurance and improvement.
  • Work with departments to develop policies, strategies, and program recommendations to improve service quality and service user experience for Rocky View County residents and staff.
  • Draft policy for Legislative Services that is consistent with Council and corporate priorities, strategic directions, and communication standards.
  • Generate options for programs and policies and assist departments to assess the implications and feasibility of these options.
  • Act as a liaison between Legislative Services and other departments to increase effectiveness of the corporate policy program and make recommendations to expedite resolution of concerns, questions, and issues.
  • Develop and deliver training programs, presentations, and materials for other departments to support the corporate policy program.
  • Prepare Council reports, research analysis, briefing notes, presentations and other policy reports and recommendations as required.
  • Ensure all Council policies are available on the Rocky View County website.
  • Maintain and update the library of administrative policies and procedures on the internal shared drive.
  • Manage and participate in department projects as assigned.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Position Requirements

Completion of a bachelor’s degree in a related field along with a minimum two years of progressively responsible and diversified office experience in a municipal and/or legal environment.

  • Experience in policy analysis and writing.
  • Above-average skills in written communication.
  • Experience working with a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Experience in project management including project design, development, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Experience in writing comprehensive formal reports.
  • Experience in system analysis (an asset).
  • Experience and comfort with public speaking.
  • Superior customer service skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office suite.
  • Knowledge of a municipal government organization (an asset).
  • A team player with the ability to foster a positive work environment.
