The Manager, Brokerage Accounting, is a vital member of the Questrade Controllership team whose purpose is to ensure financial results are accurate, timely, and produced in an efficient and effective manner leveraging technology through every step.

Leading a team of 5 and working under the direction of the Senior Manager, this role is responsible for helping lead the Brokerage Accounting function for Questrade.

In this role, responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  • Helping lead the brokerage accounting team in month-end, and annual closing activities
  • Reviewing and approving monthly Nostro reconciliations, commission and interest revenue reconciliations, Security Finance accounting, FX reasonability, etc. that are completed by senior and junior accountants
  • Analyzing monthly financials, providing explanation for month-over-month changes in the brokerage sections of the P&L and BS. Leading the team in issue investigation and resolution
  • Coordinating with Operations and Treasury to understand business events and work with Senior Manager on accounting treatment in accordance with IFRS
  • Providing continuous review and improvement to processes and procedures
  • Support Senior Manager in documenting changes and proposing  accounting policy for new operational activities such as new initiatives and trading strategies
  • Reviewing and approving the book of record system to GL mapping
  • Assisting in the annual financial package preparation. Reviewing notes and schedules prepared by the team
  • Assisting in annual audit. Providing explanation for year-over-year changes in revenue, expenses, and BS items. Responding to auditors’ inquiries and providing supporting documents
  • Facilitating performance reviews and conversations for direct reports. 
  • Providing training and mentorship to support staff in achieving their professional development goals
  • Participating in various finance projects within the Finance team
  • Performing other duties as required.

 

So are YOU our next Manager, Brokerage Accounting? You are if you…

  • Hold a Post-secondary degree / diploma in a related field
  • Hold a CPA designation or equivalent work experience
  • Have successfully completed the Canadian Securities Course
  • Have 5+ years of related work experience in a CIRO regulated member firm, with at least 1 year at a leadership level
  • Have advanced Excel skills
  • Have excellent communication skills and experience interacting with all levels of leadership, both verbally and in writing
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational and analytical skills
  • Are a results-driven individual with strong problem solving skills
  • Are able to work in fast paced environments, maintain excellent attention to detail and prioritize work within tight deadlines
  • Are able to train, onboard and performance manage team members
  • Have experience with BPS (ADP) and PostEdge reports

 

Additional kudos if you…

  • Have NetSuite experience
  • Are familiar with SQL queries
  • Completed the PDO and/or CFO exam
