What’s it like working as a Senior Principal, Cloud Platform Engineer at Questrade?

As a Senior Principal Cloud Platform Engineer, you hold a pivotal role in defining and advancing our core infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and tooling that empowers our Company's Cloud Platform. 

You'll work closely with development and architecture teams to ensure our cloud solutions are scalable, secure, and efficient, supporting our goals of delivering high-quality software products and services.

  • Lead the strategic planning and architecture for cloud infrastructure across multiple clouds (Google Cloud Platform, AWS, Azure, ), ensuring alignment with the company's long-term business goals
  • Serve as the chief architect in the development of a comprehensive cloud strategy, encompassing scalability, security, and innovation, while ensuring cost-efficiency and compliance with industry standards
  • Act as a key advisor to senior management on cloud technologies and trends, providing insights that inform decision-making and strategic direction
  • Drive the adoption of advanced cloud solutions, including AI and machine learning capabilities, to maintain competitive advantage and support business innovation
  • Oversee complex migrations of critical business applications to cloud environments, ensuring a seamless transition with minimal impact on operations
  • Establish and enforce cloud governance frameworks to manage risk, comply with regulations, and ensure data integrity and security across all cloud initiatives
  • Lead the evaluation and selection of cloud technologies and tools, orchestrating a robust ecosystem that supports the organization's technical and business objectives
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, mentoring senior engineers and leadership in best practices for cloud architecture and management
  •  Set the standard for engineering excellence by guiding engineering teams in the development, testing, debugging, and swift release of scalable, resilient, and highly available cloud-native applications.
  • Lead the development and enhancement of advanced self-service cloud infrastructure tools and Cloud Native Application CI/CD Pipelines. Empower a large community of developers with state-of-the-art solutions.
  • Recommend and implement advanced strategies to optimize costs and boost efficiencies, optimizing the utilization of resources and vendor software.
  • Stay alongside emerging cloud technologies and evaluate their potential impact on our business

So are YOU our next Senior Principal, Cloud Platform Engineer? You are if you…

  • At least 10+ years of experience in cloud computing, including significant experience in a leadership or advisory role
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing and executing comprehensive cloud strategies for large organizations, with a deep understanding of at least one cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform
  • Proven track record of leading large-scale cloud migration and transformation projects, with the ability to manage risks, timelines, and stakeholder expectations effectively
  • Extensive experience with cloud security frameworks, regulatory compliance, and risk management, with experience in cloud security (e.g., CCSP, AWS Certified Security) highly regarded
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex technical challenges into strategic solutions that drive business value
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills, with a proven ability to mentor senior technical teams, influence executive stakeholders, and collaborate across functional areas
  • Excellent documentation skills and ability to summarize complex cases in a consisted document
  • Ability to write clean and efficient code in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, Golang, Bash), promoting best practices in software development.
  • Expertise in infrastructure as code (IaC), automation tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation), and modern software development practices
  • In-depth expertise in CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation, with a strong focus on optimizing and streamlining development workflows.
