The Team Lead, Cloud Platform Engineering for the Swiss Army Knife Team is responsible for implementing core infrastructure components, CI/CD pipelines, and tooling that power Questrade's Cloud Platform. These components provide self-servicing capabilities for our Engineering teams to onboard and operationalize cloud-native applications. Key elements include container orchestration platforms (Google Kubernetes Engine), Service Mesh (Istio), container provisioning engines, configuration and secrets management, Terraform modules, and more.
In this role, you will collaborate with project and architecture teams to influence design and delivery, shape Questrade’s cloud roadmap, and lead your team in delivering cloud platform components and services across the enterprise. In this role, responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Champion “Production Quality” and create cutting edge cloud infrastructure through Infrastructure-as-Code and automation.
- Oversee cloud infrastructure design and develop or review detailed architecture models addressing current and target states, addressing architectural aspects like availability, performance, security, and cost.
- Design, propose and facilitate organizational and process improvements for supporting automation and DevOps
- Build and enhance cloud infrastructure self-service tooling and Cloud Native Application CI/CD Pipelines used by hundreds of developers.
- Provide expertise, coaching and training to other team members on technologies and processes; drive education and knowledge transfer of design patterns, technical practices, and relevant technologies and tools
- Lead and participate in technical discussions to aid system design, analysis, and troubleshooting cloud-native applications
- Responsible for defining, planning and executing high level team activities, such as recommendations for architecture and process improvements
- Recommend strategies to drive cost reduction and improve efficiencies with vendor software and written code to ensure optimal use of resources.
- Help engineering teams to develop, test, debug and release scalable, resilient and highly available cloud-native applications quickly.
- Oversee day-to-day teams' operation and performance, setting clear goals and KPIs.
- Delegate tasks and set project deadlines
- Directly manage the Swiss Army Knife team members, ensuring their work aligns with strategic goals.

- Experience managing a team of engineers and leading cloud projects.
- Deep understanding of Cloud computing concepts and solutions including public, private, and hybrid cloud.
- Strong understanding of Cloud Security, specifically IAM Roles & Policies, Security Groups and encryption keys
- Experience supporting at least one of the predominant public clouds (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
- Advanced knowledge and hands-on experience with container technologies, like Docker runtime and Kubernetes orchestration. Experience with Google Kubernetes Engine is nice to have.
- Advanced understanding CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation
- Proficiency in at least one language (i.e Python, Golang, Bash etc.)
- Experience with with Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, Cloud Deployment Manager.
- familiarity with Linux Operating system administration and a good understanding of Linux fundamentals like signals, scheduling, filesystems
- Strong TCP/IP networking knowledge in either cloud or on-prem deployments: DNS, network, routing, L3/L7 protocols etc.
- Advanced experience in building systems in a microservice environment. Understanding the building blocks of a resilient and scalable software
