What’s it like working as a Senior Business Technology Support Specialist at Questrade?

Reporting to the Business Technology Support Team Lead, the Senior Business Technology Analyst is part of a team responsible for Questrade’s Trading platforms. The Analyst provides expert support to Trading, Back Office & Compliance departments.  Responsibilities include monitoring trading, data interfaces, server connectivity, critical batch processes, providing on-demand trade support to internal trading departments and working closely with external vendors, trading venues and internal  IT departments for a variety of functions including reporting, troubleshooting, upgrades & maintenance cycles and new implementations.

The successful incumbent is able to effectively merge trading with technological knowledge and skills obtained through years of relevant industry experience.

In this role, responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • FIX software validation to certify adherence to the FIX specification and prevent the potential for application errors
  • Analyze and respond to client technical inquiries on FIX integration and, when necessary, production incidents
  • Contribute to and review technical specifications relating to the FIX technologies, including documents used by customers for purposes of integration and testing
  • Provide hands-on support for FIX Electronic trading systems with responsibility for application support, system monitoring, problem escalation, responding to system related user queries and deployment of releases.
  • Promptly schedule packaging and release new applications in a timely manner, reduce change execution times by planning implementations with parallel work streams (while working with stakeholders as appropriate).
  • Strive to improve production environment stability by working with others to set up, maintain and monitor applications and systems, while meeting availability targets.
  • Perform and maintain automated functional and regression testing on all internally-developed applications to certify them for production implementation
  • Perform controlled incident resolution including prioritization and escalation, involving business and technology partners as appropriate

  • 3-5 years’ experience and demonstrated mastery in FIX protocol
  • Trading or Trade support experience a must
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong computer skills and excellent organizational skills
  • Must be knowledgeable with Windows & Linux OS platforms, command line
  • Technical support experience
  • Working knowledge of both Windows and Linux operating systems
  • Experience supporting front-to-back Trading Systems and Trading Desks
  • Proactively manage business critical real-time trading systems in order to identify issues and potential problem areas.
  • Interact with various internal teams, Development, Quality Assurance, Operations and external 3rd party vendors to troubleshoot and resolve problems.
  • Work with all parties to provide services to agreed SLA’s.
  • Experience in a QA role working with scripts and acceptance testing
  • Experience with Software Development Life Cycle 
  • Experience with JIRA and Google Workspace 
  • Ability to work on a flexible time schedule outside of normal working hours.   Willingness to start early or stay late, as required
  • Having a growth mindset with eagerness to learn new systems, processes and technologies.
  • Strong communications skills both verbal and written for a client facing role 
  • Proven team player
