What’s it like working as a Business Systems Analyst at Questrade?

At Questrade, we bring digital solutions into our investment needs. Our Business Systems Analysis team is the conduit between our Technology department and various lines of business, to build and improve our platforms. 

The Intermediate BSA functions independently but occasionally seeks guidance from seniors. They possess intermediate knowledge within their team, basic knowledge across other teams, and lead requirements gathering within their squad while contributing to cross-squad requirements and feature solution intents.

In this role, responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Work with various business stakeholders to gather and refine requirements for a team under one Mission
• Operate mostly independently in day-to-day tasks, seeking occasional assistance from seniors as needed.
• Lead requirement gathering within the squad and participate in requirement gathering across squads.
• Develop and sustain feature-level solution intents, aiding cross-squad requirements.
• Work closely with engineering teams and designers to build and improve investment products
• Develop acceptance criteria, assist in testing, and provide data analysis on proposed and ongoing initiatives.
• Demonstrate confidence, critical thinking, innovation, and technological awareness to solve organizational challenges.
• Offer solutions for new services and suggest enhancements for product quality, reliability, performance, and scalability.
• Provide support to squad members, seeking guidance from seniors when necessary, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Knowledge / Skill Requirements:

• Agile Expert: Proficient in Agile methodologies, adept at collaborating in teams to develop software solutions for web and mobile platforms.
• Domain Knowledge: Ability to quickly grasp and comprehend business processes, systems, and technologies within the relevant domain.
• Effective Communicator: Strong communication skills enable seamless interaction with stakeholders across all organizational levels.
• Proficiency with APIs: Capable of utilizing tools like Postman for conducting API testing and basic automation to ensure functionality and effectiveness.
• Data Understanding: Able to interpret and extract insights from data using tools such as MSSQL, Power BI, or similar, at a foundational level.
• Investment Knowledge: Familiarity with investment strategies, including stocks and cryptocurrencies.
• Tech Enthusiast: Continuously curious about emerging technologies and their applications.
• Agile Frameworks: Basic understanding of Agile methodologies like Scrum and Kanban, proficient in writing user stories for engineers.
• Workflow Management: Skilled in mapping workflows into diagrams and working with large datasets in spreadsheets.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Ability to convey the importance of technical improvements and troubleshoot product issues effectively.
• Time Management: Strong time management and prioritization skills ensure efficient task execution.

Experience / Education:

• 2+ years working as a Business Analyst, Product Owner, or technical role within the financial services industry
• Work experience or knowledge in investments industry: discount brokerage and wealth management
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, IT, Business, and/or Finance with relevant work experience

Additional kudos if you…

• Completed or pursuing Canadian Securities Course (CSC®), Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO®), Certified Scrum Master (CSM®), Certified Business Analyst Professional (CBAP®) or equivalent 
• Closely worked with JIRA, Confluence, Gitlab or equivalent tools 
• Knowledge in banking and/or cryptocurrency industry
• Software development and/or entrepreneurial experience
