Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Market program participants to employers in order to obtain permanent or part-time employment opportunities
- Conduct one-on-one intake and assessments to assist clients in determining employment needs including: identifying interests and abilities, education and employment status, language proficiency, clarifying employment opportunities, identifying steps to becoming employable by determining most appropriate employment, educational/vocational/training needs. This can be done virtually or in person
- Provide program participants employment consultation including labour market information, cross-cultural competencies, volunteer opportunities, interview skills, resume writing skills, and necessary marketing tools to assist them in successfully obtaining work placement opportunities and/or employment
- Organize and support career exploration workshops and activities, including but not limited to financial literacy and Canadian workplace culture
- Develop strong business relationships with prospective host companies/employers using various strategies
- Maintain a computerized employer and client database system to track placement and volunteering opportunities
- Liaise with both client and employers while managing all aspects of career development
- Work collaboratively with NCP teams especially Labour Market Access for Newcomers department and refer clients to other department when necessary.
- Perform full life-cycle career development, which includes creating all documents from intake to case management
- Maintain accurate and specific case notes on activity of each client
- Make follow-up contact to program participants after completion of program
- Contribute constructively to program outreach efforts and projects
- Conduct employer outreach by attending networking events, visiting companies/employers, while developing new lines of communication with new employers
- Travel to and from employer to acquire new business and maintain current business
- Research and collect up-to-date labour market information and communicate findings to staff and clients
- Collect and create a master list of youth employment data and follow-up results
- Ability to speak a second language considered as an asset
- Support other team members as needed
- Be familiar with and support other departments and their functions
- Complete reports and templates as required
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- University or college degree in social sciences, business administration, marketing or public administration along with minimum 2 years of experience in job development and/or Youth Engagement or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Knowledge of labour market issues and trends as they relate to the geographic, demographic and economic aspects of the labour market in Peel, Halton and GTA
- Knowledge of the youth programs and culture, social services/immigrant-serving sector of Peel Region/GTA
- Capability to handle multiple priorities and able to work in a fast-paced environment professionally with minimal supervision
- Proficient computer skills and ability to use Microsoft Office (all applications), ZOOM, and social media competency
- Excellent English communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal
- Strong interpersonal, organizational and people skills
- Sensitivity to and understanding of immigrant issues
- Driver’s License and access to a vehicle are required.
