Legislative Assistant

Corporate Services Department

(Contract position, 35 hours per week)

 

The Town of Orangeville is seeking a contract Legislative Assistant. Reporting to the Deputy Clerk, this position is responsible for provision of legislative services to various Council committees and to provide general administrative support to the Clerk’s Division. The contract is anticipated to begin as soon as possible, and end in March 2025.

 

Job Duties:

  • Providing administrative and legislative support to the various committees of Council including agenda and minute preparation, circulation of agenda, and meeting attendance; assisting with tracking draft agenda materials and working with departmental staff to ensure the timely submission of staff reports, delegations and presentations for the electronic and hard copy distribution of Committee agendas; attending Committee meetings to provide legislative support and interface with staff and the public to ensure that meetings run efficiently and effectively.
  • Providing general administrative support to the Clerk’s Division; responding to enquiries from the general public, other levels of government and staff, both on the telephone and in person, regarding all aspects of the operation of the Clerk’s Division.
  • Providing back-up in the duties of the Deputy Division Registrar, Deputy Issuer of Marriage Licences, and Commissioner of Oaths in accordance with provincial legislation.
  • Assisting the Clerk in the conduct of municipal elections.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • Secondary school diploma.
  • Community College Diploma in Public Administration, Office Administration, or legal related field is considered an asset.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of progressive, related and demonstrated experience.
  • Working knowledge of Municipal Act, by-laws, practices and procedures relating to legislative services and general office procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team to complete tasks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, organization, and time management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, political acuity and collaboration skills.
  • Candidate must be able to attend evening meetings as required.

 

The successful candidate will be required to complete a Criminal Record Check, in accordance with the duties of this position.

 

Salary Range: $55,619.20 to $65,066.60, Band 6 on the Town’s 2024 Pay Grid
