One of a network of provincial community health centres, NorWest Community Health Centres is a community based, non-profit organization funded by Ontario Health, emphasizing access to primary health care and disease prevention programs and services.

We are seeking 1 Registered Nurse that is a compassionate, committed individual who will work as part of the interprofessional care team, the focus will be on providing health care services to newcomers and individuals at risk and residing in areas where individuals are experiencing barriers to care. The RN will work collaboratively with other interdisciplinary team members and service providers, as well as with service users. This is a new funded position with the possibility of a contract extension.

This position has a competitive salary and the Health Care of Ontario Pension Plan.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • 2 or more years of nursing experience preferred.
  • Experience in primary care, emergency department, critical care or street/outreach nursing preferred.
  • Experience in supporting new comers individuals facing barriers to health and social services.
  • Values aligned with a harm reduction approach to service delivery; frontline nursing harm reduction experience preferred
  • Awareness and sensitivity to socio-economic and cultural issues.
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to health issues particularly within populations who face barriers to accessing care (under housed, living with mental health challenges or diagnoses, current or past substance use, complex health histories, 2SLGBTQIA+, newcomers, non-insured).
  • Demonstrated ability to de-escalate conflict.
  • Knowledge of community services and resources; strong advocacy skills.
  • Respects and values the diversity of communities and individuals.
  • Proficiency in the use of computer technology and various software applications.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license, access to a vehicle.
