Job Summary:

Seeking a skilled Terrain Park Groomer with strong leadership and technical expertise in terrain park operations.As a Terrain Park Groomer, you are responsible for the safe operation of the grooming machine. They are responsible for working in collaboration with the Terrain Park Manager and Terrain Park Supervisor to build terrain park features, as well as, the daily grooming operation of the Grouse Mountain downhill runs, road ways, lift ramps, etc. Under direct supervision from the Senior Groomers and the Mountain Operations Duty Manager, Terrain Park Groomers also assist with special event preparation and work closely with the Snowmaking department to maintain proper snowpack around the hill.



Essential Job Functions:

Operator Skills:

  • Safe operation of grooming machines
  • Has a basic understanding of troubleshooting for grooming machines and is able to communicate mechanical issues when necessary
  • Adapts to changing snow conditions, machine issues, and adjusts daily maintenance plans based on weather and available resources
  • Demonstrates respect for the limits of the machine and utilizes grooming equipment technology effectively and efficiently
  • Capable of providing consistent overall grooming product that creates visually pleasing, parallel grooming pattern with minimal turnarounds
  • Performs utility-oriented tasks- i.e. moving features, fan guns, etc.
  • Refreshes features by re-grading landings, shaping breakover, adding deck height, re-shaping or rebuilding takeoffs that require little to no handwork to ensure timely opening of parks
  • Capable of smooth tiller drop on takeoffs, leaving smooth transition from approach to lip
  • Knowledge and skill to change takeoffs to alter trajectory or change character as necessary
  • Builds decks appropriate for various size and style features. Installs rails and other features with assistance of appropriate labor
  • Determines feature size, count, and overall layout of park
  • Filling out maintenance and operational logs
  • Regular cleaning and minor maintenance of grooming machines
  • All other duties as assigned

Snow Management:

  • Understands and executes efficient snow moving processes
  • Maintains an orderly, efficient, and dirt-free snow farming area
  • Maximizes use of snow while leaving sufficient base on entire trail
  • Capable of building, cutting and finishing appropriate size decks and landings as directed
  • Shows clear understanding of feature spacing, flow, and traffic patterns
  • Monitors and maintains snow pack considering snow creep, weather and skier traffic

 

Supervisory Responsibility
Leadership:

  • Work in collaboration with the Terrain Park Manager and Terrain Park Supervisor to build predetermined terrain layout and park features, including leading and directing build team on site or remotely as needed
  • Communicating with snowmaking for correct snow placement and assists in execution
  • Makes on the spot changes to feature layout based on snow levels, time, or other factors
  • Uses time management skills to ensure nightly grooming plan is complete
  • Use due diligence in all areas of risk management

 

Required Qualifications and Abilities

  • Minimum 3 years grooming experience
  • Experience building Terrain Parks, moving and placing features and building jumps that meet industry standards
  • Winch Cat experience
  • Avid snowboarder or skier who rides/skis terrain parks regularly and is at a high level
  • Previous snowmaking experience an asset 
  • Experience operating heavy duty machinery an asset 
  • Must be able to work unsupervised and co-operate with others 
  • Must be dependable and able to work in adverse environmental conditions

 

Working Conditions

 

  • Groomers perform some of their duties outdoors and may work in all different kinds of weather conditions.
  • Hours of operation are weather dependent. Due to the nature of the business, this position requires flexibility in terms of your work schedule. A variety of work schedules may include rotation of shifts, day/evening shifts, graveyard shifts, weekends and statutory holidays.
  • Shifts require siting for long periods of time, lifting, twisting, shoveling, and other forms of manual tasks.

 

Compensation and Benefits

 

$26.29/hour up to 27.89/hour based on experience
