About the Role

The Consultation Specialist Lead supervises the full life cycle for their program stream, including employees, from hiring to orientation, to coaching and performance management, and termination. The Consultation Specialist Lead establishes program deliverables, and supporting policies and procedures, sets goals and direction, and ensures alignment of resources and priorities.

What you will be doing

  • Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate services provided by the program and/or employees as part of funding agreements, as well as services provided to the organization, such as contracted or consulting services, personnel and technology and security services
  • Develop work plans, key deliverables, timelines, quality measures, and action plans with clearly identified priorities
  • Provide expertise in response to complex project needs and/or to support and advise others
  • Manage the employment lifecycle for direct reports, including recruitment, discipline, termination, and other people issues
  • Direct the development and implementation of quality assessment strategies
  • Plan, administer and control budgets for projects, contracts, equipment and supplies
  • Manage and mitigate risk with respect to program delivery, quality, people and budgets
  • Research and prepare detailed and accurate reports, briefing notes and presentations
  • Attend meetings with senior management, elected officials and government and present where required
  • Develop communication tools to enhance understanding of issues
  • Promote, track, and measure compliance with funding requirements by creating and implementing appropriate data collection, reporting, and/or record keeping processes
  • Assist with development, implementation and growth of new programs as needed
  • Collaborate with direct reports to identify ways to improve program effectiveness and implement viable ideas
  • Deal with complex, confidential, and sensitive issues in a timely manner, with tact, discretion, maturity and judgement
  • Resolve complex conflicts that arise among direct reports and/or others
  • Gathering feedback from Workplan Implementation Committees in each Region on the draft Consultation Plan
  • Managing the implementation of final MNO Self-Government and Constitution Consultation Plan
  • Negotiating and approving enhanced consultation plans that build on the final MNO Self-Government and Constitution Consultation Plan with MNO Regions who desire enhanced consultation options
  • Building a team within MNO to implement the final Consultation Plan, including hiring consultants or third parties as required
  • Advising or providing recommendations to the PCMNO with respect to self-government and Constitution consultations
  • Other reasonable duties as may be assigned

Qualifications

  • Strong desire to act in the service of Métis Citizens, to advance and uphold rights and culture
  • Significant knowledge of Métis and/or Indigenous policy issues and principles or a demonstrated ability to quickly acquire knowledge
  • A post-secondary degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • A high degree of technology literacy and proficiency in standard office equipment
  • Advanced communications skills, both written and verbal
  • Highly detail-oriented
  • Elevated levels of problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Exceptional project coordination, time management and organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a high degree of self awareness
  • Demonstrated ability to balance completion of own work with that of the team, superior organization skills and time/priority-management
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate a team to accomplish objectives
  • Demonstrated ability to solve conflicts and to manage challenging situations
  • Basic understanding of applicable employment law legislation Demonstrated ability in program development and evaluation
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly acquire and expand knowledge and to be flexible in a demanding and dynamic environment
  • 3-5 years experience in a similar/comparable role or 3-5 years experience in the Branch with demonstrated growth and potential to fulfill the role
  • Experience in employee life cycle activities: recruitment, training, coaching for performance, discipline, and termination
  • Experience in conflict management
  • Experience designing and implementing project work plans

Preferred

  • Meet the requirements for MNO Citizenship as per the MNO Bylaws and be in good standing
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively maintain financial records, manage project budgets
  • Knowledge of Métis-specific and broader indigenous key challenges, and programs and services
  • Completion of a supervisory or leadership course or certificate

Positions at the MNO may require the following:

  1. Current CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain
  2. Completion and maintenance of Vulnerable Sector Verification
  3. A reliable vehicle, driver’s licence, $1,000,000 liability insurance, and a clean driving record
  4. Flexibility to work extended hours as necessary
  5. Ability to occasionally travel within Ontario for limited periods of time
