About the Role:

The Community Relations (CR) Junior Advisor will support and undertake projects and promote citizen engagement and involvement.  This position regularly engages with elected MNO leadership to identify opportunities to advance council and MNO priorities, supports the MNO Community and Advisory Councils regarding governance matters, and supports the entire CR team with council engagement and training.

What you will be Doing:

 

  • Identify and assist community councils with general inquiries and navigate to support.
  • Provide support for Council filling of vacancies, Annual General Meetings, and assisting with organizing training
  • Provide Zoom webinars and technical support to assist in coordinating more significant MNO activities and events, including virtual Town Halls and the MNO’s Annual General Assembly. 
  • Drafting briefing notes, memos, and standard best practices documents.
  • Provide communications support, website updates, and community outreach as required.
  • Reporting and flagging activities daily in the data platform (Air Table)
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues to support and coordinate their participation in meetings, including preparing relevant materials.
  • Contributing to the creation of training and presentations using a variety of software.
  • Actively working to promote the MNO, its priorities and its key policy initiatives.
  • Assist with facilitating training, minute-taking, or other duties that are required to support council engagement.
  • Building relationships with MNO Community Councils and Advisory Council members.
  • Establishing and maintaining positive and productive working relationships with other MNO Branches.

 

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in either community or public relations or a relevant area of study. Combined work experience and education will be considered.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced multi-issue environment, serving a wide range of varied interests.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and customer service orientation.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective relationships.
  • Effective communicator with experience speaking to a variety of audiences.
  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Detail-oriented and results-focused.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Organization skills and time/priority management.
  • Ability to work alone/independently with minimal supervision as well as collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability to grasp and be sensitive to politics.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality and cultural sensitivity.
  • Strong experience with MS Office and Outlook
  • Familiarity or competency with software and platforms such as PPT, Adobe Pro, Canva, Zoom, Grammarly, Air Table (considered an asset)

 

Must be: 

  • Able to flex working hours, including working on evenings or weekends, as required, often at last-minute’s notice.
  • Willing and able to travel, at times, with overnight stays in other communities.
  • Must attend the branch Strategic Planning session annually in the fall and must attend the MNO’s Annual General Assembly in August. 
  • A valid Ontario driver’s license.
