The Opportunity:

We are currently looking for a self-motivated and enthusiastic Electrical Lighting Designer to join our Calgary office. The successful candidate will be a self-starter requiring minimal assistance and can work well both individually and as a team. What you will get up to:

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Work closely with project teams to understand client needs and project requirements.
  • Develop and execute lighting concepts, plans, and designs that meet project goals and objectives.
  • Provide lighting design for building’s interior, exterior and roadway lighting.
  • Preparing contract documents including specifications, schedule of quantities and cost estimates.
  • Create lighting calculations, layouts, and specifications.
  • Select appropriate lighting fixtures and equipment based on project requirements and budget constraints.
  • Conduct site visits and assessments to ensure that lighting installations meet design specifications and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with electrical engineers to integrate lighting systems with overall building electrical designs.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging lighting technologies to propose innovative solutions.
  • Prepare lighting design presentations and communicate design concepts effectively to clients and project stakeholders.
  • Lighting Designs to follow client specific standards.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior designers when necessary.
  • Project, scheduling and time management.
  • Cost Estimating utilizing historical and current data
  • Coordination with other disciplines.
  • Internal/external design meetings.
  • Design coordination.
  • Quality control.
  • Client/Project Management
  • Business Development
  • RFP and Proposal Submissions
  • Assist with Project Billing and monitor project performance.
  • Assist with Construction administration duties.

What we are looking for:

Qualifications, Experience and Education:

  • Electrical Engineering Degree or Certified Electrical Technologist Diploma
  • 8-12 years experience in Electrical Engineering Consulting
  • Knowledge and experience with AutoCAD and Revit considered an asset.
  • Experience with sizing conductors, conduit, and overcurrent protection. Experience calculating voltage drop.
  • Have strong understanding of lighting calculations utilizing AGI32; Visual experience would be an asset.
  • Excellent organizational, computer, and communication skills
  • Registered or ability to become registered with APEGA or ASET
  • Flexibility to adjust to shifting priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of staff, management, and stakeholders.

Required Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of Canadian Engineering standards
  • Knowledge of IES recommendations including RP-8-22.
  • Knowledge of TAC standards. 
  • Good understanding of CEC.
  • Lighting design and lighting control
  • Power distribution design
  • Emergency backup power generation
  • Uninterruptable power system design
  • Communication and infrastructure design
  • Fire alarm design
  • Sustainable Design – LEED/WELL/Net Zero
  • Building and Infrastructure evaluation
