Role Overview: Communications Specialist, Human Resources:

McElhanney’s Marketing & Communications team is looking for an experienced Communications professional with a passion for people, ready to jump into crafting compelling and creative campaigns that excite people about their career journey. As Communications Specialist, Human Resources, you will play a pivotal role in supporting internal communications and talent marketing to enhance the McElhanney people journey. 

Reporting to the Communications Lead, you will develop, curate and execute all communications and marketing initiatives related to engaging staff company-wide on HR programs and to prospective employees on exciting career opportunities. This role involves close collaboration with the HR, Communications, and Marketing & Creative Services teams to enhance the employee experience, effectively promote our employer brand, achieve overall company strategic goals, and strengthening McElhanney’s reputation as an employer of choice 

You’ll be joining the creative and collaborative McElhanney Communications team. Integrated into a larger Marketing & Communications team, we are passionate about telling compelling stories that excite and inspire. The successful candidate may be based at any of our business centers across British Columbia and Alberta.  

 

What You Will Be Doing: 

  1. Strategic Communications: 
  • Implement and manage the HR strategic communications plan to support the evolution of the employee experience. 
  1. Internal Communications: 
  • Manage communications for annual HR campaigns and one-off communications 
  1. Talent Acquisition Marketing:  
  • Developing, implementing, and managing Talent Acquisition / recruitment employer marketing campaigns and initiatives, in collaboration with the Marketing & Creative Services Division. 
  1. Digital Platform Management: 
  • Oversee digital platforms related to talent acquisition, such as Glassdoor and Indeed. 
  • Manage updates to career pages on the company website to reflect our employer brand and talent acquisition goals. 
  • Designing social media recruitment strategies. 
  1. Awards Management: 
  • Lead the application and communication efforts for employer recognition awards (e.g., Canada’s Top 100 Employer award). 
  1. Aligning Marketing & Communications with Business Insights:  
  • Develop a strong understanding of the company’s services and industry positioning while building relationships with Technical SMEs, Marketing, and Operations to effectively communicate our offerings and align marketing strategies. 

 

What You Will Bring: 

  1. Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, Marketing, Human Resources, or a related field. 

 

  1. Experience Required: 
  • Professional Background: Minimum of 5 years in developing and executing comprehensive communications and marketing strategies (including goal settings, performance metrics etc.). A strong emphasis on HR communications and talent acquisition marketing is an asset but it is not required. 
  • Project Management: Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery and high-quality outcomes for both large-scale initiatives and ad-hoc projects. 
  • Internal Communications: Proven expertise in developing engaging internal communications that resonate with employees. Skilled in crafting diverse communication materials—such as newsletters, presentations, and digital content—that effectively convey key HR initiatives and foster a positive organizational culture. 
  • Campaign Development: Experience in creating and implementing effective talent acquisition marketing campaigns, including social media strategies and performance analytics, with a focus on employer branding. 

 

  1. Technical Proficiency: 
  • Proficient in digital communication tools including email platforms (e.g. Outlook) for professional correspondence and social media platforms (e.g., LinkedIn, Facebook) for talent acquisition.  
  • Familiarity with content management systems (e.g., WordPress) and data analysis tools (e.g., Google Analytics, Rival IQ) to track and assess campaign effectiveness. 
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to new technologies and platforms as needed. 

 

  1. Skills and Attributes: 
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Ability to effectively navigate and communicate with multiple stakeholders at all levels of the organization, fostering collaboration and alignment. 
  • Organization Skills: Strong organizational abilities to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously while ensuring timely delivery of high-quality outcomes. 
  • Exceptional Communication Skills: Demonstrated proficiency in persuasive and creative writing and search engine marketing (SEM).  
  • Attention To Detail: Excellent proofreading skills, ensuring all communications are clear, accurate, and free of errors. 
  • Collaborative Approach: Experience working effectively with graphic designers and other team members to produce marketing materials that are aligned with brand strategy. 
  • Analytical and Critical Thinking: Proven ability to analyze complex information and assess campaign performance, identifying key issues and insights to develop innovative, strategic solutions that enhance communication effectiveness and drive organizational success.

  1. Salary Range: $70,000 - $90,000 Per Annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
