What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Collaborate with Engineers and Project Managers to develop designs from conceptual to detailed stages, using AutoCAD and Civil 3D for multidisciplinary projects.
  • Conduct field inspections for infrastructure construction and liaise with contractors on client sites.
  • Work with the team to ensure schedules, budgets, quality control, and safety standards are met and maintained.
  • Gain exposure to various McElhanney services, including materials testing, construction management, municipal infrastructure, transportation, water resources, geotechnical, bridge, and structural engineering.
  • Participate in McElhanney’s industry-leading safety practices to exceed client needs while ensuring our teams Think Safe, Work Safe, and Get Home Safe.

What You’ll Focus On:

As part of your experience, you’ll choose a primary discipline from the following areas, allowing you to gain specialized knowledge and skills. Based on your interest, you will work on real-world projects, supported by a multidisciplinary team of experts.

  • Alternate Project: Work on unique, non-conventional projects that challenge traditional civil engineering paths and solutions, such as Design-Build and Public-Private Partnerships (P3).
  • Water Resources: Focus on managing water systems, including flood control, stormwater management, and irrigation design.
  • Transportation/Strategic Transportation Planning: Specialize in the planning and design of transportation systems, with an emphasis on long-term, strategic planning initiatives.
  • Traffic & Safety: Dive into traffic system design and safety analysis, contributing to safer and more efficient transportation networks.
  • Structural & Bridge Engineering: Develop expertise in designing and analyzing structural components such as buildings and bridges.
  • Planning: Explore urban and regional planning with a focus on sustainable development and land use.
  • Municipal Engineering: Focus on the design and development of urban infrastructure, including roads, water distribution systems, and waste management.
  • Land Development: Specialize in the planning and engineering of residential, commercial, and industrial land development projects.
  • Landscape Architecture: Work on projects that merge functionality with aesthetics, designing outdoor spaces in urban and rural settings.
  • Geotechnical/Materials Testing: Learn to assess and test soils and construction materials to ensure stability and safety in various designs.
  • Environmental Engineering: Focus on environmental solutions that balance ecological protection with client needs, offering expertise in assessment, remediation, planning, and sustainable design. 
  • Construction Management: Specialize in managing construction projects from start to finish, ensuring quality, budget, and safety standards are met.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Enrolled in a Diploma or Degree program in Civil Engineering.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Revit or related software is an asset. 
  • Previous work experience in Civil Engineering or Construction is an asset.
  • Excellent attention to detail, sound judgment, and clear communication skills.

  • Hourly range: $22/h to $32/h. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
