McElhanney is pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for the next Discipline Leader to join our esteemed Civil Infrastructure team based out of our Langley business Center. Our Langley Civil Infrastructure team offers Municipal and Land Development engineering services and is part of our Vancouver Engineering Region. With an established presence in the Lower Mainland, we have delivered projects for every municipality in the Metro Vancouver area and are proud of our community and the work that we do! The Opportunity:

As Discipline Leader you are an experienced Professional Engineer aspiring to enhance your leadership prowess and leverage your robust technical skills in civil infrastructure specifically tailored to delivering diverse municipal infrastructure and land development projects including planning, design, and construction projects focused on transportation, drainage, sanitary, and water infrastructure. Reporting to the Operations Leader (internal classification: Branch Manager) of our Langley business center and working collaboratively with other regional leaders, you will be responsible for contributing to business center and regional strategic planning, controlling department budgets and scopes, as well as development of new and existing business, marketing of our services, and liaising with clients on project matters.
 
The role requires not only a deep understanding of technical aspects but also necessitates business acumen, adept people leadership, financial acuity, client relationship management, and a flair for business development. As an innovative leader, you are a proficient self-starter with keen skills for building new and leveraging existing extensive market relationships and client management. As a people leader, you are driven by seeing your team succeed by supporting their technical and professional development.

The successful candidate will be based in Langley and lead a team including senior, intermediate, and junior engineers and technologists located across the lower mainland. You will play a pivotal role in mentoring junior staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development within the team. Adept people leadership entails not only guiding the team towards project success but also nurturing the growth and advancement of individual team members. You will inspire and motivate junior staff, providing guidance, support, and constructive feedback to help them excel in their roles. By fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment, you will cultivate a cohesive team dynamic where every member feels valued and empowered to contribute their best.  
 
Key Responsibilities: 

  • Lead diverse municipal engineering projects; envision, manage technical, logistical, and financial aspects, and carry out engineering design from proposal stage through to commissioning
  • Act as the Engineer of Record for transportation, sanitary, storm, and/or water infrastructure designs based on your skill set
  • Lead successful proposals including technical and commercial aspects.
  • Hire, retain, coach and mentor staff fostering a positive, and an engaged culture
  • Facilitate continuous learning and professional development of team members
  • Collaborate with other business centers across the region and company to support local projects
  • Develop new business opportunities, and establish / nurture strategic relationships with key clients, agencies, and partners
  • Assist the Operations Leader in operational duties including business development, workload, staffing, equipment, safety, quality, and financial outcomes
  • Assist the Operations Leader in developing and executing business center strategic plans and budgets
  • Represent McElhanney to the external environment including clients, business partners, and professional associations to enhance McElhanney’s positive public profile.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university with strong technical skills and 8+ years of related technical experience in municipal engineering and/or land development.
  • Experience with all government levels, construction contractors, and developers would be an asset
  • Registration in good standing as a Professional Engineer in British Columbia or ability to obtain registration through existing inter-jurisdictional agreement

What can we Offer You:
The salary range for this position is $100,000 to $144,500 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
