The Opportunity:
Are you an experienced leader who is ready for the challenges and rewards of team management? We are seeking an exceptional individual with strong leadership capabilities to join our survey team as Division Manager. In this position, you will lead a team of skilled professional and technical staff in a variety of survey projects. You will be supported by local senior technical specialists with extensive market relationships and have the backing of one of Canada’s largest professional geomatics firms. This is a fantastic opportunity for a technically proficient self-starter with supervisory skills, business development, project management and client management capabilities. This role offers eligibility for shareholding privileges in our employee-owned company.
In a dynamic team environment that encourages collaboration with other McElhanney branches, the Division Manager will shoulder the responsibility of not only fostering branch and regional strategic planning but also overseeing divisional budgets and scopes. Additionally, they will play a pivotal role in cultivating new and existing business, promoting the branch's services through effective marketing strategies, and maintaining client interactions on project-related matters.

Pay Range: $82,000- 123,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
What You’ll Be Doing:
As a strategic professional, the Division Manager will work closely with the Branch Manager and project managers to achieve operation excellence, collaboration and resource sharing across the region and company. The successful candidate can rely on capable and established operational and support teams and a strong, cohesive, branch culture that incorporates and prioritizes our shared commitments to safety, project management excellence, and client satisfaction. The Division Manager empowers and develops their team and effectively contributes to our local community.
- Lead survey division operations including management of business development, workload, staffing, equipment, safety, quality, and financial outcomes
- Participate in technical and financial aspects of projects, participate in their execution as required
- Contribute to the branch survey budget development and achieve financial KPI’s and targets
- Work closely with our Civil Engineering, Environmental Services, and Structural Divisions to collaborate on interesting and challenging projects.
- Achieve all other non-financial KPI’s
- Supervise and mentor survey staff to assist with professional development and foster an engaged culture with strong technical capabilities
- Conduct performance management and facilitate the development of employee learning plans. Establish effective talent acquisition and retention plans
- Represent McElhanney to the external environment including clients, businesses, and professional associations to enhance McElhanney’s positive public profile
- Nurture existing and develop new strategic relationships with key clients, agencies, and partners
- Ensure the branch has the right survey people, in the right positions, doing the right things; aligned perfectly to fulfill our company purpose: ACE: Amaze our clients, Care for our communities, Empower our people
What You’ll Bring
- Diploma or degree in Geomatics and 5-10 years’ experience in consulting or management
- Possession of a current BC Land Surveyor (BCLS) Commission and current good standing with ABCLS.
- A proven track record of deploying new technology and developing processes to streamline survey practices.
- A great attitude with the ability to lead, develop, build trust and engagement, and motivate team members
- A keen interest in advanced survey technologies
- Experience working closely with other disciplines like civil engineering is an asset.
- Demonstrated success in business development and fostering long-term client relationships
- Project management experience with demonstrated ability to deliver projects on time and budget
- Strong leadership and organizational skills
