The Opportunity:

Do you have a passion for contributing to Western Canada’s infrastructure projects? Our Major Projects branch in Calgary, AB has an opportunity for a Geomatics Technologist to join our team. In this position you will play a key role on projects by assisting in the management of field data and supporting of field staff.  You will have the opportunity to work alongside a team of land surveyors, technologists, technicians, and engineers on a variety of survey projects ranging from electrification and power, major pipeline projects to pipeline operations and maintenance services.

This is an ideal opportunity for a talented recent graduate or intermediate-level Geomatics Technicians to join our innovative fast-paced Major Projects team, bringing technologically advances Geomatics and GIS solutions to all our clients in the pipeline industry.

 

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Interpret field data to create accurate survey drawings and legal plans, which will include downloading and editing field data, interpreting field notes and sketches, and processing conventional and GPS data
  • Interpret Engineering plans for layout and quantities as well as quality assurance checks on pipeline and other linear projects
  • Complete calculations as needed and prepare for drafting or client project reporting
  • Liaising with Project Managers and clients regarding enquiries and issues
  • Implementing and ensuring quality assurance on all field returns
  • Take instructions from the project manager for performance of office tasks.

 

Salary Range: $32- $ 46 per hour. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate. 

 

What You'll Bring :

  • Degree or technical diploma in Geomatics with at least 3 years of progressive experience; experience in cadastral surveys, engineering surveys, pipeline construction surveys and pipeline operations and maintenance surveys are considered a strong asset.
  • Excellent organizational skills, communication skills, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressures generated by deadlines and workload.
  • Multitasking and being reactive to ever-changing project tasks.
  • Ability to work in a team environment is essential.
  • Experience with MicroSurvey, Trimble Business Centre (TBC) and additional GPS processing software is essential.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel is essential.
  • Experience with Trimble’s pipeline module and data processing of pipeline construction surveys is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and ESRI software (ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Server) is an asset.
  • Familiarity with integration of CAD data into GIS format is an asset.
  • Knowledge of survey and boundary calculation, geodetic coordinate systems and map projections. Capable of computations and assessment of found legal evidence in the field when necessary.
  • Understanding of the Alberta Land titles system
  • Flexibility for this candidate to work in the field as needed, is considered an asset
