  • Develop your critical thinking skills?
  • Work in a close-knit group of motivated professionals?
  • Focus on continued growth and development?
  • Develop a career that provides a mix of local and global projects?

What makes us stand out?

KCB is an employee-owned mid-size consultancy with a reputation that exceeds our size. Our tag line “Down to Earth / Up to the Challenge” says a lot about who we are. Our staff are inquisitive, curious, and dedicated to solving complex problems. Our size allows us to draw on colleagues across the globe just as easily as if they were across the hall. We also advocate for continued professional development and encourage this by hosting a range of internal and external training sessions and encouraging staff to participate in conferences. In broad terms we think KCB’s differentiators are our:

  • size - large enough to win intriguing projects, small enough for the President and CEO to know you by name
  • creative perspectives that come through diverse and inclusive teams
  • access to some of the sectors leading talent
  • international reputation for technical excellence, everyone maintains a technical focus
  • appetite to tackle problems with unique complexities

What you would engage in:

Our focus is on the application of critical thinking to the management of mine waste and water. If continuing your career journey with us, you would be part of our Mining Environmental Group, based out our Vancouver office. The role of Water Resources Engineer comes with the flexibility to work a hybrid schedule and will provide you with the opportunity to:

  • Work with the latest versions of technology
  • Conduct hydrological and hydraulic analysis including flood mapping, water balance analysis, and hydraulic modelling
  • Incorporate climate change resiliency in hydrological and hydraulic analysis
  • Lead less experienced staff through the methodologies of design solutions
  • Engage with clients, colleagues, and suppliers on environmentally focused field programs and design solutions
  • Build client rapport as projects progress from feasibility through to mine closure
  • Prepare technical reports, proposals, and other documentation related to water resources engineering

What we require:

We respect the knowledge and experience you have gained to date and are willing to support you as you build on it. We do however require:

  • A degree in civil engineering: a master’s degree is considered an asset
  • 5+ years’ civil design experience related to surface water controls (preferably for mining or related industries), with a track record of continued development
  • You must be eligible to register as professional engineer in Canada
  • Experience in channel design, flood mapping, water conveyance, and drainage
  • A general understanding of mining-related regulations and industry best practices
  • Passion for collaborating with clients and fostering long-term relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
  • Ability to multi-task, maintain flexibility, high degree of organization, and work independently with minimal supervision in a deadline-driven environment
  • Enhanced communication skills, which should include experience in writing technical reports and general project correspondence
  • Experience in a safety focused environment with near miss and incident reporting requirements

In addition to the must have requirements you will excel in the role if you have:

  • An ability to find creative solutions and know how to present them.
  • A willingness to mentor others and be mentored.
  • An ability to build rapport with clients, colleagues, and industry partners.
  • Demonstrate that you are flexible and seek solutions rather than focus on problems.
  • A willingness to travel and undertake fieldwork.
  • A proven ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

The salary for this position is $85,000 to $110,000 per year. Salary is based on applicable experience, education, and skill level.
