POSITION SUMMARY:
 

Reporting to the Manager, Portfolio and Default Management, the Bilingual Default Specialist is responsible for managing the Default Portfolio to ensure that the portfolio is maintained, and all aspects of collection and legal processes are completed timely and efficiently. The Default Specialist is part of the Bank’s Mortgage Operations department and it is critical to have a collaborative relationship with the Bank’s other departments. The Bilingual Specialist must lead by example and ensure healthy, effective relationships are fostered. This role is also responsible for documenting, implementing and assessing controls and processes to ensure full compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and the Bank’s policies, including Privacy, AML, Complaint Handling and Compliance.
 

MAJOR ELEMENTS OF THE ROLE:
 

The Bilingual Default Specialist is responsible for handling all administration and processing aspects of the Bank’s Default portfolio including collections, all legal matters including appraisals, title searches and real estate agents and provincial lawyers.

The position plays an important role within the Bank because it requires an understanding of collections and all provincial legal requirements, credit, mortgage terms, risk management, internal controls and regulatory compliance.

 

Specific elements of the job include: 

 

  • Ensure that all mortgages in default are processed and managed in an efficient and timely manner within the parameters of the Bank’s regulatory requirements and defined policies
  • Play a key role in default management
  • Play a key role in risk management as it relates to securing valid enforceable security on every mortgage and ensuring full adherence to the Bank’s policies and procedures and regulatory requirements
  • Provide regular input, counsel and direction to the team
  • Make prompt decisions on mortgage file matters requiring approval as appropriate and permitted
  • Measure and report regularly on processing efficiency, including files requiring exceptions to the Bank’s standard processes and/or practices
  • Be a critical contributor to the Bank’s operational efficiencies by identifying and proposing effective solutions to maximize process efficiency
  • Implement on a timely basis, solutions to address internal control gaps
  • Maintain current and comprehensive written mortgage processing documentation

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • University Degree or College Diploma
  • 1+ years’ experience in mortgage processing and administration
  • Experience working at a Canadian financial institution is an asset
  • Knowledge and experience in default management which encompasses collections and legal action
  • Experience and involvement with internal audit and OSFI reviews
  • Ability to take initiative
  • Ability to work independently and know when to make decisions and when to seek input from others
  • Effectively manage multiple activities while under time constraints
  • Ability to establish healthy working relations and partnerships
  • Demonstrated planning abilities excellent written and verbal communicator
  • Ability to speak French is required
