The primary requires a skilled welder to join our dynamic team. The individual must be mechanically inclined, possess outstanding attention to detail and have knowledge of welding machinery and manual tools. The individual is responsible for assembling pieces of metal together or repairing damage in metal components.

 

Shop Work

  • Welding aluminum and steel with (MIG) welders.
  • Read blueprints and show drawings for custom work
  • Operate Oxy-Acetylene cutting torches
  • Interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to fabricate and assemble truck components, including frames, bodies, cabs, and accessories.
  • Measure and cut metal materials using cutting torches, plasma cutters, and other cutting equipment, ensuring accuracy and precision.
  • Weld metal components together using various welding techniques, such as MIG welding, to create strong and durable joints.
  • Use machine shop tools such as drill presses and shears to cut, bend and tap parts, experience with manual plasma torch, chop saw, hand drills and grinders.
  • Familiarity with power tools, hand tools, basic measuring tools, and machinery
  • Maintain and perform minor repairs on welding, brazing, and soldering equipment
  • Interpret welding process specifications
  • Fit, braze, and torch-straighten metal
  • Determine weldability of materials
  • Operate previously set-up brazing or soldering machines to bond metal or to fill holes, indentations, and metal seams
  • Operate hoisting and lifting equipment
  • Perform grinding, sanding, and finishing operations to smooth welds and remove sharp edges, ensuring a clean and professional appearance.
  • Align and fit metal components using jigs, fixtures, and alignment tools, ensuring proper fitment and alignment according to specifications.
  • Inspect fabricated components for defects, imperfections, or inconsistencies, and perform corrective actions or rework as needed to meet quality standards.
  • Keep accurate records of work performed, materials used, and time spent on projects, and report any issues or concerns to the service manager.

 

Health and Safety

  • Is aware of the employee’s responsibilities and follows all health and safety policies and procedures as set out in the Health and Safety Manual
  • Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing (face-shield, gloves, etc.)
  • Works safely to reduce the risk of injury to self, co-workers and customers
  • Is alert to and promptly reports all actual and potentially hazardous situations to Service
  • Does not operate faulty equipment
  • Wears personal protective equipment (or clothing) as required by the task, MSDS or company policy
  • Promptly reports personal injury to your supervisor and seeks first aid as needed
  • Participates in fire and Occupational Health and Safety training and drills.  Reports concerns
  • Strives to improve work processes to reduce risks
  • Knows the facility emergency evacuation plan

WORKING CONDITIONS

 

Physical Environment

Maintenance shop floor and outside yard, loud environment, working with chemicals and fumes

Physical Demand

Inside and outside in all weather extremes, operate all tools typical of transport equipment repair facility

Dexterity

Climbing, bending, working from ladders/platforms, heavy lifting and working on concrete surface for long hours

Mental/Visual Attention

Working with heavy equipment must ensure that safety is maintained, working on lifting devices, working on scaffolding, working with heights and under heavy equipment

Work Pressure

Must work to deadlines to complete tasks and maintain quality

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education and Training

 

Grade 12 or equivalent with technical training

Welder Certification 

Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures

To undertake all required training as deemed necessary by the company

 

Skills and Experience

 

Work from blueprints and raw materials to finished parts that can be welded together into complete products

Must be flexible, reliable and punctual

Able to use large tools typical of transport equipment repair

Professional and respectful communication skills

Strong technical skills related to welding transportation equipment

Fluent in reading and writing in English

Proficient welding skills
