Foreman / Lead Hand – Day Shift

The primary responsibility of the position is to ensure safe, quality and timely repairs in the Service Centre, while dedicating a percentage of your time to repairing customer equipment. This is done effectively through supervision of Truck, Trailer and Tanker Technicians, assignment of work and quality of job completion, educating the team on safe operating procedures, managing a safe workplace, and raising awareness of hazards. Monitoring Technicians to ensure performance is up to standard and problem solving by eliminating waste, is key to improving throughput for customers and the efficiency of the Service Centre operation. This is a working Foreman role.

 Responsibilities:

 Service Centre Supervision

  • Work with Standard Work Procedures to identify areas for improvement
  • Ensure all work being performed is done following healthy and safety guidelines
  • Ensure all equipment is in safe working condition and advise Service Manager of any tools or equipment that require vendor repair or replacement
  • Communicate safety, productivity and quality expectation with Technicians for each job
  • Escalate safety concerns to Manager immediately
  • Open/close Service Centre for shift start up and shut down
  • Communicate and prepare shift hand off information at end of each shift
  • Monitor jobs to avoid any problems or delays ahead of time
  • Monitor, coach and train Technicians on standards, productivity and quality of work
  • Identify Technician skill levels to gauge supervision intervals
  • Continuously monitor Service Centre organization and complete daily checklist
  • Monitor Technician clock-on times in the system to ensure accuracy
  • Monitor job times to completion targets and communicate to Technicians
  • Involve Parts Planner immediately for parts required in the Service Centre
  • Ensure warranty parts and information are captured when flagged by the system
  • Monitor waste bins and advise when they need to be picked up
  • Track and repair tools and equipment that are out of service
  • Perform all types of repairs and maintenance to transportation equipment
  • Shunting trailers in/out of Service Centre as required
  • Performing inbound/outbound truck and trailer inspections as required
  • Other work as may be defined

 Performing Repairs and Maintenance

  • Following GoRight’s standard work order process and procedures ensuring detailed, accurate and timely records
  • Perform repairs and maintenance on equipment
  • Repair and maintain customer equipment
  • Diagnose faults or malfunctions of equipment
  • Complete timely and quality repairs and inspections resulting in customer satisfaction
  • Contribute to the maintenance of a clean and safe facility
  • Adhere to Company safety policies and procedures including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) guidelines
  • Other duties as assigned

Team Leadership

  • Conduct daily shift startup huddles
  • Meet with Technicians 1 on 1 before and after each job to provide expectations and feedback
  • Train Technicians on workflow and computer system procedures:
  • Search and select assigned work, add parts, use and understand system codes, enter comments, etc.
  • Assist Technicians with parts and tooling procedures, proper use and familiarity
  • Training Technicians on proper repair and inspection procedures

 Safe Workplace

  • Educate Technicians on safe operating procedures
  • Raise awareness of common hazards
  • Ensure training is complete and up to date
  • Monitor and address safety concerns immediately

 Continuous Improvement

  • Work with Lean tools and techniques to identify and solve problems
  • Ensure Standard Work documents are up to date and encourage involvement and improvement
  • Ensure Technicians are trained on standard work and other lean tools
  • Monitor standard work for improvement opportunities
  • Encourage suggestions and ideas for improvement
  • Document, organize and prepare employee suggestions and ideas for execution
  • Work continuously to eliminate wastes to increase capacity and improve productivity

 Customer Service

  • Maintain courteous and respectful communication and presentation with customers and employees
  • Communicate with customers on job requirements and completion when required
  • Other work as may be defined

 Administration

  • Ensure all work performed is documented on the work order
  • Schedule and attend staff meetings and training, after hours if required
  • Other work as may be defined

 

Workplace Health and Safety

  • Is aware of the supervisor’s and the employee’s responsibilities and follows all health and safety policies and procedures as set out in the Health and Safety Manual, as well as the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Familiar and compliant with regulations and requirements pertaining to all equipment types and work processes being performed
  • Works safely to reduce risk of injury to self, co-workers and customers
  • Is alert to and promptly reports all actual and potentially hazardous situations to the Service Centre Manager or designate. Does not operate faulty equipment.
  • Promptly reports all personal injury to Service Centre Manager and seeks first aid as needed
  • Participates in fire safety demonstrations, fire drills and knows the locations’ fire and disaster plan
  • Educate Technicians on safe operating procedures
  • Raise awareness of common hazards
  • Ensure training is complete and up to date
  • Monitor and address safety concerns immediately

 

Education and Training

  • Grade 12 or equivalent with trade training
  • Licensed 310J, 310T with adequate trailer repair experience or Red Seal Truck and Transport License

  • Truck, Trailer and Tanker maintenance knowledge and experience
