Job Overview: 

The Quality Assurance Supervisor ensures quality and food safety in the facility and is responsible for meeting the quality targets. This position coordinates activities in accordance with (inter)national and GFSI standards and customer requirements and builds a strong quality culture.

This role is permanent full-time with a standard 37.5 hour work week and eligibility for overtime.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Maintain and provide solutions for improving the Total Quality Management of both products and programs such as, but not limited to; re-calibrating equipment (scales and metal detectors) and identifying and eliminating losses and bottlenecks in production and gaps within programs. 
  • Provide leadership and direction in the plant QA team towards training, coaching and developing of QA technicians. This includes, but is not limited to identifying training needs, providing opportunity for personal growth, assessing performance goals, assuring adherence to company policies and practices, managing absenteeism and assisting in disciplining should coaching be ineffective. 
  • Provide leadership during audits. Assist and lead as assigned by QA Manager. 
  • Work with Operations Team to implement corporate policies and establish standards relating to quality assurance, work with key individuals within the QA team to maintain audit practitioner certifications 
  • Perform sampling, inspection and physical testing on the product and/or equipment as required 
  • Conduct team-training on Food Safety & Quality Management in alignment with the QA Manager, as per GFSI requirements and corporate policies to maintain or exceed audit scoring, while ensuring consistent compliance with national and international food industry standards 
  • Maintain proper documentation relating to quality assurance, and as specified by policy and procedure requirements 
  • Ensure superior product standards through the measurement and validation of Key Process Indicators (KPI), as well as quality controls such as the use of metal detectors, reviewing labels, and verifying the product weight to comply with specifications to help attain 100% first pass quality goals. 
  • Ensuring full transparency and communication to the Quality Assurance Manager of any non-conformities identified 
  • Conduct regular risk assessments to plan how targets will be met, executing the strategic plan and periodically checking and taking actions to stay on track 

Qualifications: 

  • Completion of college diploma in Food Science, or a related field 
  • Completion of college diploma in Food Science, or a related field Preferred 5 years of experience in Quality Assurance. Preferred people management skills. Preferred (internal) auditing skills 
  • Certified Quality Auditor, Professional Quality Designation
