Genoa Design International has become one of the most sought-after production design firms in the North American shipbuilding market. Because of our continued growth in both Canada and the US, we are seeking skilled Mechanical/Piping designers to join our team.

All experience levels are considered, but the ideal candidates will have shipbuilding production design and 3D modelling experience in designing mechanical systems for various types of vessels. Leadership is also a critical part of this role, and the successful candidate will be expected to strengthen the team by sharing their knowledge, coaching and mentoring.

  • Collaborating with multiple stakeholders to understand project requirements and constraints.
  • Working with colleagues of various disciplines to fully design and integrate vessel compartments.
  • Creating and modifying 3D models based on inputs such as P&IDs, Schematics, Vendor Supplied Information (VFI), and client standards.
  • Designing equipment and piping layouts according to Human Systems Interface standards, ensuring an ergonomic and functional design.
  • Incorporating supports, spools, penetrations, and instrumentation.
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, classification rules (DNV, Lloyds/GL, etc.), design guidelines, and client-specific standards.
  • Creating production drawings for construction and installation.
  • Ensure a level of quality control for project work in accordance with the client’s quality management system.

  • A Technical diploma or degree in a related discipline (naval architecture, marine engineering systems design, mechanical, HVAC or electrical design) or equivalent combination of education and technical experience.
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling using ShipConstructor, AVEVA, Cadmatic, Foran or other ship design software.
  • Knowledge of regulatory bodies and classification societies, as well as other industry standards.
  • Exposure to a shipyard or production environment is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize, meet project deadlines and problem-solve.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • A growth mindset with a willingness to share knowledge, mentor, and be mentored, no matter the experience level.

At Genoa Design, we foster a supportive and inclusive environment and are committed to ensuring that people can be their truest selves at work. We are dedicated to building a diverse team and promoting a sense of belonging. This commitment is built into our core values and our passion to celebrate each person’s unique abilities.

We achieve this by providing space for people to voice their ideas and opinions and by welcoming one another’s contributions. By actively involving community partners, we strive to constantly learn, develop, and progress in our pursuit of continuous improvement.

We know it’s rare for someone to meet 100% of the qualifications, and you don’t need all the listed credentials to add incredible value to the team. We also know the confidence gap and imposter syndrome can get in the way of meeting amazing candidates like you. If you are an initiative-taking individual and prepared to complete the tasks outlined above, apply in the strictest confidence today!
