Genoa Design International has become one of the most sought-after production design firms in the North American shipbuilding market. Because of our continued growth in both Canada and the US, we are seeking skilled Mechanical/Piping designers to join our team.

 

All experience levels are considered, but the ideal candidates will have shipbuilding production design and 3D modelling experience in designing mechanical systems for various types of vessels. Leadership is also a critical part of this role, and the successful candidate will be expected to strengthen the team by sharing their knowledge, coaching and mentoring.

 

WHAT YOU’LL DO

As a Designer with our Production Design and Manufacturing Information team, you will be responsible for:

 

  • Working with a team of like-minded designers with various degrees of experience to resolve problems and get the job done.
  • Collaborating with multiple stakeholders to understand project requirements and constraints.
  • Working with colleagues of various disciplines to fully design and integrate vessel compartments.
  • Creating and modifying 3D models based on inputs such as P&IDs, Schematics, Vendor Supplied Information (VFI), and client standards.
  • Designing equipment and piping layouts according to Human Systems Interface standards, ensuring an ergonomic and functional design.
  • Incorporating supports, spools, penetrations, and instrumentation.
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, classification rules (DNV, Lloyds/GL, etc.), design guidelines, and client-specific standards.
  • Creating production drawings for construction and installation.
  • Ensure a level of quality control for project work in accordance with the client’s quality management system.

 

WHAT YOU’LL NEED IN YOUR TOOLKIT

  • A Technical diploma or degree in a related discipline (naval architecture, marine engineering systems design, mechanical, HVAC or electrical design) or equivalent combination of education and technical experience.
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling using ShipConstructor, AVEVA, Cadmatic, Foran or other ship design software.
  • Knowledge of regulatory bodies and classification societies, as well as other industry standards.
  • Exposure to a shipyard or production environment is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize, meet project deadlines and problem-solve.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • A growth mindset with a willingness to share knowledge, mentor, and be mentored, no matter the experience level.
