Position Title: Director, Group Insurance Data Insights & Analytics
Reports To: VP, Group Finance & Actuarial

Work Arrangements: This is a hybrid role. You will work in our office in Waterloo, ON a minimum of two (2) assigned, consecutive days every other week, plus a fifth (5th) assigned day per month. You are welcome to work from the office more than the minimum requirement and there may be some roles that are required to work in our office more than the minimum requirement.

 

 

The Opportunity:  Equitable is growing! We are looking for a Director, Group Insurance Data Insights & Analytics to join our Group Insurance team!  

 

The Director, Group Insurance Data Insights & Analytics, is a key role supporting the entire Group Insurance Leadership team and their respective organizations. The incumbent will be responsible for developing the data strategy for the Group Insurance business, and the delivery and implementation of that strategy.

What you will be doing:

  • Develop Data Analytics roadmap for the business: Collaborate with leaders across the organization to understand current state and identify target state; develop a strategic recommendation and drive the delivery of the Group Insurance data strategy
  • Reporting/BI solutions, Automation, Self serve: Leverage leading practices to build and evolve reporting / BI solutions for the business using enterprise tools and platforms. This includes assessing and advising on design directions and reporting / BI requirements, analyzing and sourcing data, data modelling, designing / implementing visualizations and automation initiatives, completing robust documentation, aligning with Data Strategy, Governance & Quality expectations, and guiding the business to utilize the solutions.
  • Develop new analytics: Collaborate with finance, actuarial, underwriting, distribution, and operational claims and administration teams to build new analytic capabilities supporting and driving the strategic growth and development of the Group insurance business.
  • Data Subject Matter Expertise: Build and expand expertise about data and data flows in the Group business applications (source systems) and enterprise data platform (s). Represent the Group business and share that knowledge with enterprise and technology teams to support the development of the overall company data strategy, reporting/BI practices, analytics development, and digital initiatives. Ensure a sustainable process is in place to allow this knowledge to be retained and shared across the organization.
  • Data Governance Alignment:  Partner with the enterprise Data Governance and Quality team to build and run the processes, policies, and tools to oversee and manage Equitable’s data. Inform the overall direction of the Equitable data strategy, through the lens of Group Insurance data
  • Stakeholder Collaboration and Data Community Engagement: Build and support an engaged data community across Group Insurance business, consisting of data, finance, operations, distribution, product and leaders/stakeholders. Collaborate to understand data needs and priorities and embed data governance practices into daily operations to ultimately drive client impact.
  • Performance and Effectiveness: Define and track key performance indicators and metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of data governance and quality program while providing regular insights to senior management.
  • Leadership and Coaching: Build and guide a high performing team of professionals who utilize a collaborative approach with focus on achieving outcomes and delivering valuable interactions with partners / stakeholders.

 

 


What you will bring:

  • 10+ years of experience with a mix of business/data analytics, financial results and profitability management, predictive analytics/data science. Background in Group Insurance is considered an asset.
  • 10+ years of experience leading teams responsible for data management and analytics; Experience with databases / data warehouses, data integration, and data modelling concepts and tools; expertise with data extraction and manipulation using SQL or similar tools (including advanced Excel skills for data analysis); experience using Power platform suite such as Power Apps, Power BI etc. to build reporting / BI visualizations.
  • Familiarity with data governance, data management, and data quality processes and techniques; knowledge of coding/programming languages (e.g. Python, Java, C#) is highly desirable
  • Excellent leadership and stakeholder management skills, with a proven ability to influence and collaborate effectively across business functions and with external stakeholders/partners.
  • Demonstrable track record of working cross-functionally with stakeholders to secure buy-in, creating accepted solutions, and working flexibly to accommodate changing priorities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to continuous improvement
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely and present complex / technical concepts simply.
  • Analytical mindset and problem-solving approach; focus on bridging the gap between business and technical teams from a data perspective.
  • Experience leading, guiding, and coaching data teams with varying skill sets to deliver on the established data objectives / outcomes.
