ABOUT US

Connective Support Society Kamloops (Connective) is a registered non-profit charitable organization that provides assistance with housing, life-skills, and community-based support with the goal of assisting individuals to achieve greater independence.

 

We are a growing organization, with over 120 employees and an operating budget of over $13 million.  Our programs include a continuum of housing and outreach support services through long term, sustainable contractual relationships with a number of provincial and federal government funders. 

 

Through our long history of service delivery, we have developed an expertise and expansion in multiple housing and programs including supporting persons with complex needs facing multiple barriers through to the management of affordable housing complexes for those living independently.

ROLE PURPOSE

The members of the Board of Directors oversee the governance of the society and ensure that Connective:

  • Achieves outcomes consistent with the Society’s Mission, Vision, and objectives in accordance with our mandate and strategic plan
  • Operates in a fiscally sound and prudent manner
  • Operates according to our Constitution and Bylaws, and all applicable acts, statutes, and regulations

 

MEETINGS & TIME COMMITMENT

Board members are expected to actively participate in all Board meetings.  The board meets approximately 6 times per year and Directors can join either in person or virtually based on their availability.  The organization asks for a minimum 2-year commitment to the role. 

 

ELIGIBILITY

As per the BC Societies Act, a director of a non-profit Society in British Columbia:

  • Must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident over 18 years of age
  • Must not have been found by any court, in Canada or elsewhere, to be incapable to managing their own affairs
  • Must not be an undischarged bankrupt
  • Must have not been convicted in or out of BC of an offence in connection with the promotion, formation, or management of a corporation of unincorporated entity, or of an offence involving fraud, unless certain criteria have been met

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • An understanding of and commitment to the work of Connective and the organization’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values
  • Knowledgeable and skilled in areas of board governance, not-for-profit sector, finance, human resources, risk management and advocacy
  • Interest in supporting the Society pursue its mandate in the community

 

SPECIFIC NEEDS

We welcome candidates with experience and a vision in the following areas:

  • Community Development
  • Risk Management
  • Communications and HR
  • Improving outcomes for Indigenous peoples

 

** This position is a voluntary position**

Important: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada, observe their weekly hours limit if under a temporary or study visa, and provide proof of eligibility if selected for the role.
