ROLE PURPOSE

Our Ministry of Child and Family Development (MCFD) funded programs for youth and children to support individuals who require full-time specialized care due to multiple psychiatric diagnoses, developmental disabilities, and complex behaviors.

These programs build relationships with resident(s) and families, and assist residents to live successfully in the residence, ensuring that residents’ emotional, social, physical, educational, and medical needs are met. They will work alongside other staff to assist residents with activities of daily living and the development of life skills.

 

 

STATUS AND CLASSIFICATION

Unionized; this position is open to all genders. 

 

HOURS (40 HOURS PER WEEK)

  • Sunday to Thursday, 0800 - 1600

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

As a Residence Worker, Child and Youth, your responsibilities will include:

  • Provides input to the Program Manager and/or other staff regarding the development of appropriate care plans to achieve residents’ objectives
  • Acts as a positive role model for residents, providing emotional support, behavior management, and supporting individuals in achieving goals
  • Provides emotional support and feedback to residents and their families
  • When assigned, participates in social, recreational, employment, educational and other programs as appropriate to assist residents’ case/care plans
  • Assists with personal hygiene tasks as required

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Diploma, preferably in behavioural sciences, social work, human services, psychology, child & youth care,
  • Experience working with high-risk children and youth with multiple diagnoses such as autism spectrum disorders, FASD, ADHD, trauma and complex behavioral challenges
  • Experience supporting children and youth who may have significant developmental delays, intellectual, emotional, and social challenges, and multi-barriered families
  • Ability to respond effectively to challenging and aggressive behaviors
  • Experience providing trauma-informed support to clients in challenging environments
  • Ability to work in a team environment where communication and consistency is key
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships with families, other team members, clients, partners and stakeholders
  • Strong communication skills (listening, verbal and written)
  • Ability to provide support to children and youth in self-cleaning, hygiene, and daily life-skills
  • Commitment to continuous learning and training

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid BC Cass 5 driver’s license
  • Ability to successfully complete a Children and Vulnerable Persons Criminal Records and Ministry of Child and Family Development Clearance Check
  • Successful completion of a Vulnerable Persons Criminal Records Check
  • Security Clearance and reference checks
  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • Proof of Covid-19 Vaccination

 

COMPENSATION
As Connective is a unionized environment, the starting wage is $27.54 per hour plus 10.6% in lieu of vacation pay and benefits. The wage will increase with every 2,000 hours worked up to a maximum of $30.69 per hour. 

Important: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada, observe their weekly hours limit if under a temporary or study visa, and provide proof of eligibility if selected for the role.
