Cape Breton University invites applications for the role of Research Coordinator in the department of Office of Research & Graduate Studies. This is full-time limited term role for a contract of approximately 2 years.


The successful candidate will be reporting to the Executive Director of the Centre of Excellence for Healthy Aging (CEHA) at Cape Breton University (CBU) in relation to administrative processes and CBU policy, as well as the Medical Lead (physician) located at Cape Breton Regional Hospital (CBRH), 1482 George Street, Sydney NS, in relation to the research protocols and clinical trails.  The Research Coordinator will oversee all Clinical Trial related study activities and act as the Industry Liaison between Physicians, CBU, and study sponsors as needed. 

 

Some specific duties of this role but not limited to are to coordination of patient visits schedules as per study protocol, including ensuring ongoing informed consent and reporting of deviations. The will also execute or coordinate all aspects of study visit (e.g. assessment of adverse events, monitoring safety, medication administration, sample collection, including processing of samples according to clinical protocol).

 

This role may be responsible to provide reports annually and when requested to the ACT Network Committee on activities and working autonomously to provide clinical research care for patients participating in clinical trials; liaising with other research teams or medical teams as needed. The candidate will also provide implementation and coordination of all aspects of data collection and source documentation, as per CBU policy, ICH/GCP guidelines, and any applicable organizational policies.

 

Required Qualification for this role are as followed:

 

  • Two years’ experience working in clinical trials required
  • Training in ICH/GCP guidelines required
  • Previous completion of Division 5 training required
  • Completion of TCPS 2: CORE-2022 certificate required
  • Knowledge of IATA shipping regulations & basic laboratory procedures an asset
  • Attention to detail & meticulous documentation practice
  • Evidence of good physical assessment, psychosocial assessment & patient/family teaching skills
  • Ability to operate in a strictly confidential work environment with sensitive and confidential information, research, and strategies
  • Familiarity conducting research or working in a patient care setting is considered an asset
  • Autonomous critical thinking ability required
  • Excellent organizational & time management skills required
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal & written communication skills required
  • Ability to set priorities & work independently and collaboratively with accuracy in a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment
  • Strong knowledge base in Clinical Trials including clinical research experience an asset
  • Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office software – Word, Excel, Outlook, & PowerPoint required
  • Completion of recent Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Search a requirement
  • Required vaccines per Nova Scotia Health requirements:
    • Proof of two MMR vaccines or proof of immunity to measles, mumps, rubella (serology/titer);
    • Proof of two varicella vaccines or proof of immunity (serology/titer);
    • Proof of hepatitis B immunity (serology for hepatitis B surface antibody);
    • Proof of tetanus within the last 10 years;
    • Proof of primary series (two doses) of COVID 19 vaccine.  This is mandatory;
    • Record of 2 step TB skin testing.
