Cape Breton University invites applications for a full-time continuing position as Rink Attendant. This role will commence September 1st 2024 (or soon thereafter.)

 

The Facilities Management Department provides a range of services including the alteration and maintenance of existing facilities, project management, utilities services, the maintenance of residences, and management of the Canada Games Complex. The objective of the Department is to effectively and efficiently deliver a multitude of diverse functions and services in support of the university’s overall mission.

 

Rink Attendant, during ice plant operation is responsible for ice maintenance, building and equipment maintenance (including preventive maintenance) in the Arena.  When the ice plant is not in service, the arena will function as an off-ice facility, during those times the Rink Attendant will participate in maintenance and event facilitation in the arena complex, other recreational facilities, or around the campus. The Attendant will operate a variety of equipment in the performance of duties. 

 

Qualifications of this role are:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid Power Engineering Class 4 ticket or Refrigeration Class 2.
  • Minimum of one (1) year related experience.
  • Current First Aid course, AED and CPR, or willingness to obtain and re-certify as required.
  • Demonstrated initiative to carry out job responsibilities with general direction including good judgment skills.
  • Physically fit in order to be able to carry out the requirements of the position.
  • Ability to wear a respirator.
  • Demonstrated good work safety record.
  • Knowledge of regulatory procedures, and provincial Codes/Standards.
  • Thorough knowledge of area plant operations and safety protocols.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions, the N.S. OHS Act, WHMIS.

  • Proof of Valid Power Engineering Class 4 ticket or Refrigeration Class 2.
  • list of least three references. 
    • Short listed candidates will be required to submit three reference letters.

The union affiliation of this position is with the Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union. Local 19, Maintenance Classification (MOS).
