POSITION SUMMARY:

 

The Clinical Intake Worker facilitates telephone, online or in-person intake and triage of clients based on established Employee Assistance Program (EAP) policies and procedures, obtains complete client information, matches clients with appropriate services and service providers, and refers client crises or emergencies to clinical staff for immediate intervention.  Clinical Intake Workers provide crisis support and brief psychological care as required.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Facilitates telephone, online and in-person intake and triage of clients based on established EAP policies and procedures: 
  • Obtains complete client information and assesses client affect and risk factors. 
  • Responds appropriately and skillfully to callers presenting in crisis. 
  • Verifies subscriber eligibility and coverage for service; provides alternative referrals when an individual is ineligible for coverage. 
  • Assigns cases to appropriate EAP counsellor/resource using established referral criteria and procedures. 
  • Provides brief psychological care and crisis support to clients as appropriate. 
  • Acts as a catalyst to service delivery, identifying needs and making connections to service providers, specialized EAP services and community resources as appropriate. 
  • Ensures clients are aware of and encouraged to access available online EAP services. 
  • Records data related to intake and other EAP processes accurately and in accordance with established EAP policies and procedures. 
  • Responds to counsellor inquiries or requests for assistance in an appropriate and timely manner. 
  • Responds to inquiries for workshops, CISDs and other organizational assistance services and forwards to appropriate personnel. 
  • Learns and utilizes the necessary technology and internal applications relevant to the position. 
  • Reports on activities and results to Intake Team Lead, Employee Assistance Services, as required. 
  • Participates in one-to-one supervision meetings and team meetings as required. 
  • As approved by Intake Team Lead, Employee Assistance Services, initiates such personal and professional development as may be required to remain effective in the position and to achieve personal professional development objectives. 
  • Provides back-up to other Employee Assistance Services staff as required. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. 

Qualifications and Skills

 

  • Dedicated to the principles of exceptional customer service; committed to responding to, anticipating, and addressing customer needs, for both internal and external customers.  
  • Post-secondary degree in a counselling, psychology, health or human services discipline together with a minimum of one year of experience in an EAP, clinical or health care setting required. 
  • Proficient in Teams, Outlook and other commonly used office applications.  
  • Respects and protects client rights and confidentiality. 
  • Knowledge of EAP preferred. 
  • Crisis intervention training required. 
  • Highly skilled at working with clients in an empathetic, supportive and client-centred manner with cultural competence and a trauma-informed approach. 
  • Excellent attention to detail, time management skills and a strong ability to manage multiple competing priorities. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Must be able to work cooperatively in a multi-disciplinary, team-based environment. 
  • Demonstrates a high level of maturity and judgment; able to work within structured work plans. 
  • Strong organizational and communication skills (verbal and written). 
  • Knowledge of various community-based mental health resources an asset. 
  • French or another second language is an asset. 
  • Able to work evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays as required.
  • Subject to Criminal Records and Manitoba Child Abuse Registry checks.
