Programs for Instruction may include: Floor Hockey, Dance, Multi Sport, Soccer, Cooking, Science, Basketball, Pickleball, Volleyball, Badminton, Arts & Crafts, Learn to Skate.

Program Support & Implementation

      Assists in planning and organizing and is responsible for implementing and leading high quality recreation activities that are age-appropriate ensuring participants are fully engaged and having fun in a safe environment.
      Implements and effectively follows program plans as outlined by the Program Coordinator.
      Organizes and assists with the set up and tear down of equipment before and after each lesson (as required).
      Creates a positive and enthusiastic environment for the participants.
      Possesses knowledge and ability to implement inclusive programming allowing for children and adults of all abilities to participate.
      Is a role model of City values and inclusiveness through all interactions with program participants, parents, and co-workers.
      Ensures quality assurance in the delivery of all recreational programming.
      Performs other duties, responsibilities and functions as assigned.

The Program Instructor will perform all activities in a safe manner, in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its Regulations, along with Corporate Safety policies, procedures and programs. In addition, all necessary personal protective equipment must be used and maintained in good condition.


Minimum Qualifications:

Proven competence in area of instruction
Minimum age of 14
Strong oral & written communication skills.
Ability to think and interact effectively, tactfully, and courteously with participants, parents and other staff building a cooperative and collaborative  working relationship.
Satisfactory Police Record Check (Police Vulnerable Sector Check if aged 18+ and Police Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check if under 18)
Standard First Aid, CPR & AED Certification.

 

Notes:

Hours of Work: Varies depending on program (3-20hrs/wk); evenings/weekends. Normal hours of work with a varying schedule to support program demand.

Work Environment: This position works in an indoor (occasionally outdoor) recreation environments engaged in program activities, which involves exposure to varying temperatures.  Interactions and contacts are generally courteous and collaborative, however, can include occasional exposure to rudeness, profanity and/or verbal abuse. Attendance at regular program meetings mandatory. Travel to special events or day trips as required.

Hazards: This position works in indoor and outdoor recreation environments engaged in program activities, which involves exposure to varying noise and odors. Varying noise levels dependent on type of activity children are participating in. (ie. playing sports and games, crafts).

Physical Requirements: Physical effort required for this position varied depending on the program being taught but will include continuous physical efforts as instructors are required to participate in and demonstrate the program being delivered. Constant level of physical activity. Lifting and moving program equipment and supplies. Assisting children in various activities.

Mental Requirements: Constant supervision of children and awareness of potential safety risks. Ability to observe and monitor multiple activities and small groups of children. Ability to hear and respond to participant requests for assistance or concerns.

Rate of Pay:  $17.11 - $18.86 per hour (depending on experience), plus 4% vacation pay.
