Factors Laboratories Ltd. is hiring Production Labourers starting in Summer 2024 on a two-year contract. Starting wage is $22.00/hour and the position is located at 8955 Jim Bailey Crescent, Kelowna, BC. Successful candidates must be available to work any shift within a 24-hour day, Sunday through Saturday operation during harvest season (approximately June through October).

Job Summary

Production Labourers take exceptional care in receiving freshly harvested plant materials from Factors Farms and supporting the processing of them into herbal, fruit, and vegetable extracts. This process is completed within the manufacturing environment utilizing standard operating procedures and working with equipment, such as evaporators and extractors. Outside of harvest season, Production Labourers process stored or acquired raw materials with the same care as fresh materials. Once the material has been extracted it is stored and utilized by other manufacturing departments to produce high quality health products while taking into consideration the company’s commitment to our seven Core Values such as Sustainability (people, the planet, and profit) in the planning and implementation of all actions related to the area of responsibility.

 

Job Description:

  • Assist process control operators and operate multi-function machinery through control panels, computer terminals or other control systems to grind, extract, mix, blend, cook or otherwise process products and to bag, box or otherwise package products
  • Compound or process ingredients according to formulas and established standards
  • Processing of herbal extracts including receiving, grinding, extracting, blending, mixing and concentrating herbs into standardized extracts.
  • Operating and troubleshooting all extraction equipment including Schmidt Evaporator, Rotary Extractor, Rotavapor, and various other process control and single function machines in a safe and efficient manner
  • Clean machines and immediate work areas
  • Observe gauges to verify specified processing conditions and make adjustments to process variables such as processing times, ingredient inputs, flow rates and temperature settings
  • Examine materials, ingredients, or products to ensure conformance to established standards
  • Work closely with the Manager and Supervisor to anticipate, resolve and meet production demands in real time as needed
  • Follow and adhere to all given instructions including work procedures, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP)
  • Strictly adhere to and observe all safety policies as outlined in the company policies and training sessions
  • Daily measurement and checking of In Process Checks (IPCs)
  • Maintain shift log of production, safety and other data
  • Record production information such as quantity, weight, volume, date and type of products processed and prepared to ship
  • Provide accurate samples to QC lab for analysis
  • Available to work any shift within a 24-hour day, Sunday through Saturday operation during harvest season (approximately June through October)
  • Understands the importance of processing freshly harvested materials in real time and is flexible to meet this requirement
  • Provides occasional support to other production and packaging departments within the facility 
  • Other duties as assigned


Requirements:

Technical

  • Mechanically inclined
  • Mathematical aptitude
  • Good handwriting for record keeping
  • Confined space certification an asset
  • Experience operating a forklift an asset
  • Knowledge of GMP an asset
  • Excellent communication in the English language, both written and verbal
  • Regular, predictable attendance is an essential function of this job

 

Attributes

  • The willingness and ability to wear a respirator as a respirator is part of the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for this position.
  • Capable to perform all job duties including frequent walking and standing, crawling in confined spaces, frequent twisting, reaching above shoulder level, behind shoulder level, and below chest level, lifting up to 25kgs, and the ability to work in hot, cold, wet, indoor and outdoor environments
